Hope you enjoy the show pics. If you have any questions about showing or judging orchids or about any of the plants pictured here, just post them.

Are the zygos pictured for sale or on show? Curious because of the condition of the leaves. Not that I'm planning to show mine - but I don't mind patting myself on the back when I manage to get something right (the leaves on mine aren't spotted).

That Phrag. is beautiful,I usually don't care to much for them but that one is an exception.

Zygos can be grown without leaf spotting (as you've experienced) but if they are grow in in high hunidity or wet, especially combined with cooler temps (like we have here in winter) the leaves get spotty.

In the AOC (Australian Orchid Council) the overwhelming priority is given to flower quality so in the case of the Zygos above, the leaf spotting will not matter much. In the US (AOS - American Orchid Society) the condition of the plant and the overall presentation of the whole plant is given much more weight.

Well, I'm only dealing with 70 or so plants, instead of the 100s or so these growers no doubt have ... I'm still patting myself for being able to keep my leaves pretty in my cool coastal conditions!

Hi Kevin.

Very nice lot of plants, love the way the leaves on Cym Peggy Foo spread out and down.
Was it Phil G's.
As for the zygo's, yes they suffer a lot from spotting especially if not under cover and have too much light or again too much shade on them. Pity as they can be very nice and very scented.
The cross of No.5 Cym Margaret Thatcher x Vibrant Bliss looks to be a winner
Congrats,
Ron

I have to start checking the calendar more. I usually try to get to Warringal OS's shows but obviously I missed that one. A nice little pick up on your part (although I'm no doubt biased as I've got a thing for Sarah Jeans).

Kevin that Sarah Jean x is YUMMY. I wish I lived closer, I would beg you for your first backbulb. I love pink Cyms, and the lip, I could swoon over that lip.

Hi Ron, I don't know who grew the Peggy Foo. My pic didn't do it justice because it was at the top centre of a table display so my photo angle is looking up at it. If I could hoave got up higher you would have seen that the spikes are stiking up clearly above the leaves, really very good presentation.

This was a first bloom seedling. I don't recall it winning anything at this show, probably because it wasn't fully open and so a bit cuppy, but rest assured I'll have my award-specticles on, looking for this guy next year.

Hi Kevin.
"Cym Margaret Thatcher x Vibrant Bliss"
I agree it is a bit cuppy but what a lip.
Wish it was my seedling.
Cheerio

Fantastic lip and such a pure, even yellow colour on the petals and sepals, not so much as a streak of brown or green, perfectly even yellow. I know the guy who owns the plant. He's a good grower and I'll be really surprised if it doesn't get awarded somehow, somewhere on a good flowering.
