Orchid Fair: Santa Barbara, CA

Is anyone going to this? I really want to but I'm not sure I can convince the boyfriend...Also, has anyone been to it in the past? I'm curious what it's like...

Thanks Arlene! And thanks again for all of your help I'm at work at the moment, but I couldn't even access the site here a few days ago too. As for the Fair, I'd like to go and hope the boyfriend will go too. However, I just started looking at hotel rates and am shocked to find that the average is $200+/night. Santa Barbara is an awesome place to go to during the summer and I can see how they'd ask for those prices...but wow!

I wish I could go. Santa Barbara is so nice and pretty. Last time I was there was in 2006. Stayed in a really nice place with a view of the pier and water. The nightly rate was 200+ and there was no events happening. I bet they hike it up for the fair too. Unfortunately it's harder and harder to find decent hotels for under $200 anymore.

ButtOn, mabe you can find a place outside of Santa Barbra so the rates are lower. Then just drive into Santa Barbara.

Jenny, lord know what kinda weirdos are out there. Although it is tempting, just to be able to go and see all those orchids!

butt0n -- Try hotels in Solvang and Buellton. It's about 20-25 mins. drive to Santa Barbara. I'm sure there's a hotel or two that has less than $200/night.

I went to last years show...it is just down the street from me. Its was great...did major damage, but got some wonderful chids! I am planning on going again this year.

Yes, try Solvang butt0n or even a little further southeast or along the 101 freeway, there are some adorable little towns with bed and breakfasts that shouldn't be as expensive but, prices are getting out of control everywhere?

Everything is becoming outrageously expensive. I just spent $4.10/gallon for gas yesterday and the airline ticket I usually would get for $300 round trip is now going for over $700.

Arlene, It is nice living here...but a little dangerous. I find myself at the SBOE about every other week to see whats in spike that will do well in my yard. Sadly for my wallet..lots of orchids living at my house now.

button...during the orchid fare, SBOE sells seedlings for $7.50. If you come to the fair...you MUST get over there...it is very close by.

Look for rooms in Carpenteria...it is just south of SB.

Sounds sooo tempting...I'm still looking at hotel rates...doesn't look too good, especially since I'd be driving down there.
