First real orchid show!

I'm so excited!! I'm making plans to go to Las Vegas at the end of Feb. and then going to San Francisco to visit some friends.......just in time for the 2008 PACIFIC ORCHID EXPO!!!! I probably won't see much of my friends, lol. This will be my first real orchid show, and I'm bringing plenty of money with me It'll be a while before I get to attend another show. Now I just need to find a decent camera to take with me, though it'll probably just slow me down.

Yay! Orchid shows are great...you probably don't get too many of them in Alaska, do you?

Oh you will love the SF show. I go every year and every year I am amazed. You can approach the show in two ways. 1. Leave the cash and cards home, or 2. Bring the whole bank with you. Either way, the show and sale will amaze you.

As far as I know, there's never been an orchid show in Alaska. There are some garden shows that have orchids there, but never more than one or two vendors. I order most of my orchids online. The most orchids I've seen in on place has to be Carmelas Orchids in Hawaii, that was a lot of fun.

Oh man, I can't wait to go to my first show! {I live in up-state New York} I think that it will be in April- Tobi will give us the particulars... (I hope) I can't wait!!! What a thrill to see the "best of the best!" What a great way to nurture what God has given us...

Great news on attending the orchid show in S.F. I thought that there is an Alaskan
Orchid Society in Anchorage? Maybe you and some of the members can start an
annual orchid show there and invite vendors from other areas to attend. Just a thought.

Patticake - The show in Rochester is April 4-6. Will give details when it gets closer.

When you go, look at the sale orchids obliquely. Don't look at them straight on, as they may see you and take a shine to you and make you take them home! Happens to me all the time.

had to laugh at your post, not because its silly, but it happens all the time. LOL. If those plants get a good eye on you, you will end up buying the damm thing. Happened to be at a store just two weeks ago.

We do have an orchid society, it's just not very big, and they don't do much that I'm interested in. I find I learn more from the internet, and doing my own research.

I won't be suprised if they just start climbing into my arms. lol, I'm pretty sure even planning ahead to take plenty of money, I'm not going to bring enough. I'll have to make sure to save enough to FedEx them home.

wow, it all sounds so exciting, there arent any shows here either, but maybe thats not all bad ,its hard enough to walk past a flower shop or a big box store and not buy one, I cant imagine what a show would be like, have alot of fun!

I have the International Orchid Show next week in Miami Fl. is supposed to big huge I went to it about 20 years ago and it was great. Can't wait to start going again will post pictures for you guys.

How fun - your first orchid show! Once you have been to one there is NO turning back!! It's sort of like going to Disneyland for the first time. I have two coming up, a local 'Fascination of Orchids' show and another in Santa Barbara shortly after that. The SB growers have their open houses on the same dates as the show so I can go CRAZY!! Focus this year: Laelias, Oncidium 'Sherry Baby' and mini catts. I am sure it will something else NEXT year!

Tip: wear a fanny pack to keep your hands free and to make it easy for the money to just fly out randomly at will.

Go to the buying section first, buy what you want, take pictures later!!!! That is my advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
