I thought I'd bump this up.

Who's going? If any of you are, would you like to meet up at the show?

Although I live closer to San Francisco (Pacific Orchid Expo is that same weekend), my hubby and I chose to take a drive down to SB and make a weekend getaway of it. We are so looking forward to the weekend after this!

We plan on going but haven't decided which day we want to go to. Perhaps Friday will have less people and better selection but perhaps there might be a few deals on Sunday.

I'll be going to the show next Friday, 2/29, and visit nurseries nearby on Saturday, 3/1. Sunday, my hubby and I will drive back home.

I think there will be more selection next Friday. But then, I might change my mind and do it vice versa. SBOE will have the $7.50 table which will have more selection that Friday morninng.

Most likely, I'll be at SBOE in the morning and at the show in the afternoon. Does SBOE get busy on the first day? I'd be there when they open, but with my little girl coming along, it's not guaranteed.

It is busy in the morning at SBOE, but not enough to be a problem. I try to finish up at Cal Orchids and SBOE in time to get to the show at the 9 o'clock openning, but usually miss it a bit. At Cal O, the wife doesn't like to take money from people before their 9 o'clock openning, so go find the husband. Cash works really well.

I wish I could go more than one day, but with a 2 1/2 hour drive I have to find them all the first time. I am not sure what time I will be going yet, but I will let you know.

Well, they (Cal O) are theoretically only open at 9, but the doors are wide open and no one to shoo you off, at least not that I have ever seen.

My husband and I plan on making an anniversary getaway out of it also. We will be leaving very early on Friday morning and hit SBOE when they open, doing the show after. Saturday will be Cal Orchid and the show again for one last cruise, nice dinner, and home late. Can't leave the critters for too long.

I have never been to this show before; if I am looking for miniature/compact Phals and Cyms, would it be better to go to the show first?? Anyone??
Anyone interested in meeting for lunch at a certain time and place?? The Orchid Geeks Lunch, or after the show since some us us will be driving a long distance? I find it so difficult to just bump in to someone.

BTW - I went to the SBOE Open House last November. I left my house at 5:30 am and was there when they opened. I was lucky to get a parking spot and hiked a couple of blocks from where I was able to park. I'm thinking with the show going on at the same time it will be worse?? Cynthia?? Your opinion having been there??

Regarding mini Phals and Cyms, unless you're familiar with the vendors/growers at the show, it would be better to look around the show...or just go to SBOE who has mini Cyms. There are other nurseries nearby. However, I dont remember the names.

I'm in for lunch. Since I'm not familiar with what's good nearby the fairgrounds, I'm open to suggestions.

We'll be in Solvang (where we'll be staying) by Thursday evening. I'll PM my room phone# to you after we settle in...or you can give me a number where I can reach you. I think, the best time to meet for lunch will be Saturday?

I totally know what you mean about not sure where to go first! LOL I keep changing my mind!

Since I always arrive at SBOE at 8:00 in the morning, I have never had trouble finding parking in the SBOE's parking area, on their property. The show opens at 9:00, so no conflict there. Cal Orchids is just down the street from SBOE, straight out their driveway (north), so you can walk from SBOE after you park your car there.

PS. The show comes last after the vendors at the show have been thoroughly perused. Check out Sunset Valley Orchids for mini-Catts.

Thanks Cynthia; it certainly helps to get the scoop from someone who has the best system figured out.

Arlene I was thinking of lunch or a soda from someplace on the fairgrounds at the show. Solvang is quite a ways from where we will be staying in Carpenteria. You are north of SB, I am south! Sometime Saturday will be fine with me; I'll PM you my cell phone #.
I would love to meet all of you. I have looked for Orchid Geeks at many shows and never find any. Did run into Carlos, but then I knew where he was going to be at a certain time. I will make myself available at whatever time works best for everyone, even if it is for 20 minutes.

Can't wait!! it's coming up fast!
