World Conference

Just wondered if anyone is going to the tradeshow this week I believe its in Fort Lauderdale. I am told that this is a big deal as far as tradeshows go. I can't wait I'm going on Thursday.

Well the International Orchid Show starts on 1/23 to 1/28 in Miami, Fl this is the big one are you sure this is not the one you mean?

there are two big events in Miami this week: the WOC and the Tamiami show. Both will feature mostly the same vendors.

Hey to all y'all. I'm new to the forum, and quite excited about orchids. Bought my first one a bit over a year ago and now I'm so addicted they are the first things I look at when visiting any garden shop. Friday will be my day to visit the World Orchid Conference in Miami and I'm sure hoping to learn a few things. I'll undoubtedly have questions at some point for you experts, but for now just wanted to toss out a 'howdy'. Enjoy the day! dt

It was. I actually begged the woman from Carter and Holmes' nursery to sell me the Darwin orchid from her display! Unfortunately (or fortunately, perhaps, considering how much a full grown, blooming Darwin orchid would've cost me), that's their stock plant that they use for breeding. I took 4 home as it was.

I was able to make it to the conference on Sunday too. It was absolutely AMAZING!!!!! I went about 1:00 and didn't leave until 9:30. I brout home 27 new orchids!! The displays were beautiful especially the orchid trees full of Oncidium Twinkles. I started talking to some of the venders and ended up helping tear down the Indian River display. The deals were just as amazing. The best deal was three blooming phals for ten bucks.

WOW that was amazing! I wish I could have went to the show but my kids were in for a visit and I don't get to see them too often.

Their vote was to waste away in Magaritaville which was a blast!

I just visited jmurphy's orchid photos from the 19th World Orchid Conference and was just having a blast until I saw the sign that announces the 20th conference will be in Singapore. In 2011. Singapore? Three years from now??? I live 30 minutes north of Miami and for some idiotic reason thought the conference was annual and local. Hello...you'd think the word "WORLD" would have been a clue... OH, I am CRUSHED that I squandered this opportunity, and so early in my orchid-growing adventures. If I still had the dexterity, I'd kick myself square in the... Well, I will just have to monitor this site for smaller shows local to South Florida. If anyone knows of any, give a shout, please! I am such a bonehead...

Yup - every 3 years in different hemispheres each time, or something like that. Next time it's in the US should be about 24 years from now. SUCKS!!!!! I should have delayed my knee surgery. errr sniff sniff
