| I'm sorry, I'm a bad documentarian.... I went to this, but forgot my camera! Basically it was just vendors there- there weren't any displays or specimens- everything was for sale. It was in one small conference room at a hotel. They did have some classes, and I went to two- the first was about orchids in baskets taught by Dr. Doug Pulley. I won a Stanhopea seedling in a raffle! Dr. Pulley said it was about 2 years from blooming size. The second was presented by a gentleman from Andy's Orchids and he talked about mounted orchids, stressing water quality and watering frequency and duration. He recommended watering with ether RO, deionized, or distilled water for the best results. Andy's specializes in species- no hybrids! So the plants he's used to are probably pickier than most. And now for the loot! I have not had opportunity to take photos yet, but I got: Dracula chestertonii (blooming) Paph. Bella Lucia 'Elf" x delenatii (in bud) Cym. Sweet Tango 'Ooh aah' (2 years from blooming size) Dryadella edwalii (blooming- VERY mini) Stenoglottis 'Venus' (mature, but not in bloom yet) And last but not least, my raffle booty, Stan. tigrina 'BT' x Victory 'Yoda' It was very tight quarters, so I had to go outside for air quite a bit. It was a fun day, though. ![]() |

| fred -- I forgot to bring my camera as well. So no pics of the orchids (for sale). However, I did take a few pics of my Disas in bloom this evening and will take pics of the others in bloom tomorrow. Andria -- You went home with more than I did. I bought four and won two in a raffle. Since I have four, I'll put two outside and keep the other two in my orchid room. We'll see which one(s) will survive.I can hardly wait to see you new babies. Btw...I had the feeling the orchid show will be small since it was held at a Holiday Inn Express, which is a small version of Holiday Inn. Although the place was a bit tight and there were a total of five vendors, it was fun being there. I hope you visited other places in the bay area besides the orchid show.

| Well, I did make a quick stop off in Richmond for snacks... I stayed away from San Francisco because I always spend money when I'm there. I spent enough, so I drove home afterwards. I do enjoy driving- I think I would be a good candidate to take a really long road trip. I got there at about noon, because I took the wrong exit and got a bit lost in downtown San Jose. I'm such a bonehead! I never realized Gold Country Orchids was so close to me! A lady there said there is an orchid farm near Watsonville that has an event where you pay $100 and can take all that you can carry yourself, as in, you can fill up the one box you can carry in your arms. Have you ever heard of this? It would be worth checking out...... I'm hoping my Dracula will perk up a bit before I take pictures. It was a bit upset at being in my sort-of-hot car for two hours. |

| hehe sounds like you had a good time with the orchids and driving you have got some nice orchids there. you for got your camera that is a poor excuse hehe at least we will get to see the orchids you bought. that will be good. Is your Disas in spaghnum moss or a bark medium ? Disas love to be kept moist. I aslo find Draculars grow the best in a plastic mesh type pot so the flower spikes can grow out freely. Culture sheet link below will be helpful http://retirees.uwaterloo.ca/~jerry/...es/masdev.html |

| Adrian -- I arrived there at 11:30 and didn't leave until 1pm or so! I'm sure I 'bumped' into you since the place was rather small. Two of the orchids I bought I watered with spring/drinking water I always have in the car. Their potting medium was a bit dry and was rather thirsty. Oh, a $100 for all you can carry, I can do that easily! Did you get Gold Country Orchids' website address or business address/phone? If so, will you please pm me with the info? If they are near Sacramento, I just might visit them, too, when I visit my brother. fred -- The Disas are in sphag. moss. and sitting in a pan of water. I just put two outside and hope they survive. The other two are in my orchid room.
