Photo Software Suggestions Needed

I'm back with a new Computer and of course ...nothing seems Compatible from old Computer. I had been using Corel Photo Shop 6 well of course that's phased out. I Downloaded Corel 7 and it is so difficult to navigate. Corel tells me they're going to phase that out.
So QUESTION
What type of Photo Softeware do any of you use. I have a Nikon
D50 and a Nikon Coolpix.

I use Adobe Photo shop
I just load the pics onto my pc that saves the photos to My Pictures and run the pics through photo shop.
thats with my DSLR Olympus

The full Photoshop is a $700 package but everything you need is in the smaller version Photoshop Essentials for about $80. The only things missing are the graphic arts features, which you do not need.

If you need more than Essentials, there is Photoshop elements. Its the "Tweener" between Essentials and the full monte version. You can also look at the various on line sites. Some of them have some nice editing soft ware. Flicker, shutterfly etc.

Corel has been offering a super sweet deal on their Paint Shop Pro Photo XII lately - they've been running specials online the past few weeks for as little as $39.99. It has totally everything you could possibly want into the semi-advanced category. Link - Overview - Paint Shop Pro Photo X2
Being a thrifty person myself I use it and the features available are well beyond my expertise!

Thank you for all your help. Right now I am trying the 30 day Free trail on the Corel photoshop 2010. I seems to be quite a bit easier than the Photoshop 7.

One of the best kept secrets is this free program Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing
As the story goes a mob of your uni students were sponsored by microsoft to develop it for windows. When that idea was abandoned the students continued on and regularly update it. Has much more than needed (layers etc.) but is absolutely free and runs rings around a lot of others.

i suggest using GIMP. this is Open Source Software and it's completely Free. hugely comparable to Photoshop and more features than Paint.

originally developed for the Linux community and has since migrated to OSX and Windows platforms.

give that a try - highly recommended.

I use photoshop elements myself. Most of the time I've gotten a free copy of an older version with a new video card when I've done an upgrade for my computer. Sometimes it can come with new cameras as well.

Adobe photoshop since day 1, started with elements, move on to some funny version and now stuck at CS2 when CS4 is already out and running.

I'm sure there are some cheaper deals of Photoshop since those phase out ones like i'm using don't really get much attention and they'll just release it at a cheaper price. I was seeing one that is $29.90 over here.

Depending on which features you use i definitely would recommend the GIMP or paint.net. I myself use GIMP for most of my graphic editing.
As a really basic tool i use snagit studio just for resizing, etc.

I bought Photoshop Elements 8.0 for about $50 at Costco with a $30 coupon. With the amount of features I really use, I'm sure I could manage with open source software, but it was easy to find, so I just bought it. I upgraded from 2.0, so I'm not exactly cutting edge here!

Photoshop is a good graphics package - it's what I use most often - but Photoshop Lightroom is designed specifically for photos, not general creative graphics. You can import "raw" images and adjust pretty much anything about the photo, as if you were developing it.
