Since you're also a member, what do you think?

I think it would make information much easier to find, as well as information you may stumble upon, not even looking for....all there, in one place. I suspect though that it might be too much work to start sorting through all the posts and consolidating everything into these forums.

I think this idea would help when searching a certain genera or alliance for care tips or ideas for your next plant.

I rather like the idea as well. As Jay stated, it would help for all types of members in
searching for specific info for a genera or alliance. As long as we keep it somewhat
narrowed down, otherwise it would probably be too cumbersome and I know a lot of
extra work for you.

General cultural information for each alliance can be summed up in the form of a chart. Practically speaking, lets see if this is useful. Ok, I just bought a Blc. Fancy Shmancy and I want to know how to grow it, so I go to orchidgeeks.com of course. If I am a newbie, I have no idea what alliance this orchid is in or even what an alliance is, so the usefulness disappears in that case. If I have some experience, then I already know what alliance it belongs to and the stereotypical culture it needs (high light, intermediate, etc. - easy to remember). If the case I want to inquire about that orchid specifically, I just type the name of the plant in the search box instead of going through the hundreds of different Catt orchids already discussed. Sorry Sandra

My opinion as a member: I enjoy the variety I find by just going to the "70 most recent threads". I love my phals, but want to read about dens and catts, too. If I want to research a specific genera or particular topic, I can find the information I need by doing a forum search. I don't see that classifying information by species or alliance would be an improvement.

Well, you wanted other opinions and this is just my opinion, Sandra. It may not be popular, but I'm sticking to it...

KenFL - as soon as you go to orchidgeeks.com, click on "enter orchid forum". Then you have to go down and choose the category. After that there is a "new topic" button near the top left

I've read forums where the "families" are grouped together and I only check on things I like - I never venture into the other sections if I don't have it or think I want it.

By sorting through the general sections here I can fall in love with something I didn't know I needed. Just my two cents but with inflation, probably four cents now.

The 70 most recent posts would still be there for those who like to see everything new. However, there are times that I am looking for information for a certain species or genera and it would be nice to be able to look through a section with those groups. This is at least how I would imagine it.

I really like things just as they are, it is so nice to have all the topics right there, I have learned so much from reading everything, which I might not have done if it were all cattagorized.

I, generally, only use the 70 Most Recent Posts to view daily. I like the idea of dividing topics/posts in to the different alliances, for the non-newbie, but how many topics have there been... "Just got an orchid, what is it?"

I really like how everything is right now. Can't tell you how many new plants I have 'fallen for' just by reading up on a new topic. Boy, did that make any sense? Need more coffee!!!

I wasn't suggesting taking anything away, just adding to.

I find it extremely useful on another site and thought members here would benefit too.

But, it's all so irrelevant, it doesn't matter. If it aint broke....

Got it.

Here's a thought - not sure that it's possible to do but Fred can find out. Is there a way to 'Tag' a topic, no matter where it is on the forum? Fred, or another admin, reads the post and makes the decision that it is related to Cattleya (for example). I guess this would tie in to other comments above about search capabilities.
