New Member Banned

Hi my fellow orchidgeeks

Just to let you know I had 2 of our wonderful Geeks reported a new member to me ( Patricia ) for sending out PM,s that are regarded as Spam.
As the member was reported to me she has been banned plus all her sent and received PM,s have been deleted as I was also sent a copy of the PM that Patricia had sent out.

I will not tolerate any form of Spam on the forum as we all know this is a fun place to learn and talk about orchids.

You do an amazing job of keeping spam off the forum. It's really impressive. I know that from time to time a little bit sneaks through but on average the amount of spam on the forum here is so much less compared to other sites and email. It's impressive how clean the forum is.

I clicked on another forum a long while back (I haven't cheated since) and was really annoyed by the POP UPS! How annoying! Thanks Fred - you are always right on it!

Funny, I didn't think of her as a spammer. I got her PM in which she wrote something like "Hi I'm new here. How's it going?" and under her name was a quote about Buddhism and a link to her site, which was just a list of categorized links on topics such as meditiation. I didn't think she was trying to sell anything or offer other non-orchid-related stuff.

That's the first sign of a spammer. Newbies know off the bat that they cannot personally PM members until there are sooo many posts made. Then to PM a repetitive message like that is ludacris. That's what the introductions thread is for.

Oh, I forgot about that rule that to PM you had to have made a certain number of posts, and I guess I always associated spamming with advertising things for sale. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

hang on a sec I will clarify that for you Sarah
a member has to have a certain amounts of posts ( 5 ) to post pictures that is because of spamming.
When a new member just PM,s alot of members that has nothing to do with orchids and also contain,s a web link that is seen as spamming.
If a post in the Introduction was made First and then the PM,s would have been sent then the member would have received a warning.
As I also have other sites I have had to deal with this member before all PM,s were the same and the member never made any posts at all.

I also had members report the PM,s to me this site has nothing to do with Buddhism I have nothing against religion but there is no need to PM members regarding Buddhism.

Right, I forgot about that; it's been awhile. Actually her signature was a quote about Buddhism; the site was a list of links categorized according to meditation, health, spirituality, and rebirth. Anyway, it's not really important. I'll remember this next time if I should get a strange PM as a first post from a new user.

golly sorry I didnt know you had to have a few posts before trying to load pics, my mistake well I have nto heard that before so notice is taken , I to got an e mail from that person and couldnt think how she got my address???????????anyway I will lick the problem and get to ask the name of my poor orchid I have lost the tag i know it had a fcc
