Updated some things

Hey everyone, I updated the homepage of www.orchidgeeks.com
so that it now displays the 30 Most Recent Threads instead of 10. This is what some people have been asking for...I know its not perfect as it combines all the categories but its a start.

Please give me Feedback, is 30 too little or too much or Just right?


I also adjusted the TopStats from 5 to 10 (found at the bottom of www.orchidgeeks.com/forum) It shows the top posters, newest members and latest Replies.

i think maybe 15 would be better as this is a real long list and there really in over all arent to many posts, also i think that the user data should be back at the top like it use to be , but other then that it seems just peachy. maybe you could make the other picture forums auto post instead of having to wait for a moderators approval i think that would also be a nice improvement as well.

Yes, I think 30 is a minimum, and you might note the current activity and increase this number in proportion to the increase in activity of the forum in the future, so that it will keep this list at about 4 days worth of posts. So we have 'new posts', we have 'posts within the last 24 hours', which is difficult to get to, since we don't get this option unless there have been no new posts since ??? (I don't know how the 'new posts' gets reset to zero), and then there is this 'recent posts' which covers approximately the last 4 days.

I do see a little misdirection in your buttons. I have a button on my desk top that takes me directly to the Forum, skipping the home page. So I looked around for a home buttom. Couldn't find one, but found an 'Orchid Forum' button at the bottom of the page, and this does indeed take me to the Home Page. But, shouldn't this say 'Home'? If it says 'Orchid Forum', I would expect it to take me to the same page as your 'Enter Orchid Forum' on the home page. Cynthia, Prescott, AZ

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I agree that 30 may look long, but some people maybe away for a couple days and it's nice not to miss any good posts. Also if 30 is overwhelming for some people there is still the TOP 10 posts on the forum page.

I also fixed the naming to say "Orchid HomePage" at the bottom as Cynthia was right it was confusing!

Dave, I just tried to get the homepage by clicking on the link in your post and got the message ' Internet explorer cannot display this page ' We have also got problems accessing '70 most recent threads' .I thought I had got round it but ended up with the page 'most recent threads' with only 12 posts on it.

i was typing orchidgeeks.com in, and would get a blank page. typing orchidgeeks.com/forum gets me to the forum. (in fact i'm here now.... )


ooooookay, and clicking on "70 most recent threads" gets me that blank page again.

thanks for letting us know guys I have been advised by Dave that he will get his programmer into this asap.
once I do know the reason for the site being down etc etc I will let you all know.

I'm with Janet. If I type in the address, either I get a blank page or an Internet Explorer message that the server is not available. The only way I can get here is to click on an e-mail link from a forum message.

Also, wasn't able to send you a p.m. Fred - screen just hangs up.

I have one better. I tried to log on yesterday and when I did I got sent to a site telling me that I needed to download some type of program by ZEND. I assume that's the software that the bulletin is using? Needless to say I didn't do it and figured that the site went up in flames and crashed. Someone would eventually dust the pieces and put it back together

For the past two days I have tried to access the forum from work at orchidgeeks.com and get nothing but a blank white page - it has worked up until then - so apparently something has changed?
