What do you think?

Don't mean to put a damper on it, but for me personally I think they're over the top.

Again, to me personally, they are a bit too garish for the Forum, it is lowering the standard to a kids type forum where everyone will try to out bling each other, I don't think we need them.

This is an ORCHID GROWERS' FORUM, NOT a DESIGN FORUM.
I draw the line just at avatars, have fun with them, they don't take over the posts, and you can do a lot with them as you have seen.

With these banners your eyes are directed to these large letters before the post, in graphic design there is an international principal in design called the KISS Principal.
Keep It Simple Stupid! I think these things will complicate things.

Most memebers probably won't agree with me, but I don't want to cheapen the look of the Forum from what it is.

Sorry if people are offended but just giving some sound design advice on aesthetics, and my opinion, which doesn't usually count for much.

The signatures are fun but I agree with Anton. The orchid forum should be about orchids otherwise we'll get side tracked. Just my opinion.

AWWWW! Come on Anton it can't be as bad as all that. Bling is good for the soul.
Besides, I wasn't trying to outbling anyone, I just thought it was cute. I used to go by less is more, and I got this dog. His name was Noble is as Noble Does. He was beautiful, and very noble looking. However he loved bling. He wore necklaces (Mardi gras necklaces were his favorite), and liked his toenails painted with glitter. The smartest bravest guy I knew, and completely devoted to me. His favorite things were pink and purple and believe me he could tell between a blue toy and a pink one. Just as I was positive that Noble was same-sex oriented, he knocked up my female Mirranova. I kept two of his pups, Noble's Rancid Millions (Rance), and Noble's Glitterbug Blings (Bling-Bling). They have been of great comfort to me since his death.

So here is what I know, and learned from a dog. Dancing for joy at anytime is fun, bling is good, and always greet those you love with enthusiasm and bouncing joy.
Oh, and my other dane is Buzz Lightyear of Starcomand

I don't mean to sound like an old Grandma, but I don't find the "bling bling:" banners to be anything that adds to our forum. Personally, I find them distractive, as the first thing I notice in the post is the very large and very predominate colors & fonts. I came here to enjoy the company and exchange of information with fellow orchid lovers - not to try to get above or beyond the banners or any bling bling competition. Now, I find myself skipping past those posts with the large and obnoxious banners. Let's get back to orchids. I thought that was our original mission.

p.s. Don't even think I'm some old poop here. Esthetics is esthetics. And yes, you can p.m. me if you don't like this repsonse.

Wow, ouch. Well i can see that I am wrong for liking the pretty name, so I am taking it off. I would like to explain that I was just teasing Anton, and defending my position nicely, at least I thought. When Fred pointed out the banners I did it for fun. I can think of many things that are more unappealing than names in color. I was here because I felt welcome, to learn about orchids, and to make friends. I now realize that I misjudged, I will correct my behavior, and in the future, I will just stick to orchids. Thanks for the lesson about this forum. I don't want to pm you, and I hope my post was polite enough.

By all means play with avatars, not a problem with that, they are unobtrusive and make for personalization, but being involved in graphic design since Moses played Quarter Back for Jeruselum, it has been hammered into me K.I.S.S. simple is best.

With these bannersthere is a trend, which I must add, I have seen starting here already, where someone makes a big banner, then someone else makes abigger one, then someone else blings theirs to the high heaven.

Suddenly............ orchids ? are we supposed to be talking about orchids ?....Oh.

I have been on many forums in my time.....20 odd years worth, I am speaking from wordly experience here, and I don't want this forum to go the same way and lose direction as others which I have been on. I have been guilty of this myself in the past, but woke up to the fact of what was happening.

Having informed the other members of the objectives of the Forum got howled down as they were having too much fun with out Blinging each other and the focus of the forum was lost, therefore.......FORUM GONE!

So let's just kep it at avatars, please ?

BTW I have a very thick skin and not easily offended, so don't feel upset that you might have hurt my feelings, it takes a lot, believe me.

Only personal character attacks get my back right up, but it is not something that would occur here anyway, if it does, then I will be sending the curse of a thousand monkey fles out to infest you, and a plague of scale to your orchids. ............... BE WARNED.

I guess fun only goes so far.

As we learn about orchids its fine to have some fun along the way.

I have removed Both Link s and thats no fun either.

I make changes to the forum in hope to drum up new members If a member wishes to complain as to how the forum is run I invite you to take your complaints to me via a pm.

I have also removed all members banners.
