Anyone know what are the orchids used as cut flower and where they grow

Most orchids can be used for cut flowers, except maybe Paphs but generally they tend to be Phals, Catts and miniature Cyms.

lots and lots and lots of dens. most corsages are made from cyms these days; you don't see many of the big floofy catt corsages.

at my office, people have been getting spray of onc twinkle as cut flowers for special anniversaries.

I have seen a lot of orchids used as cut flowers:
Renanthera
Vanda
Dendrobium
Cymbidium
Oncidium
Cattleya
Phalenopsis
Arachnites
and even Paphiopedilum

If you live anywhere near a Trader Joes they often sell wonderful sprays of cut orchids for a GREAT price - especially dendrobiums and mokara. Purchased about a dozen sprays for a wedding last year! (Thailand is a BIG source of cut orchids).

cutting offf flowers from an orchid you've grown would feel like murder to me i just couldnt do it, watching it grow from a little plant to making a big lovely flower, then *snip*....

Generally speaking the orchids that are use to produce blooms for the cut flower trade are a varied lot ranging at least from Phalaenopsis, to mokara, dendrobiums, cymbidiums, cattleyas and probably a heap more genera as well.
The thing that they have in common is that they grow well commercially for someone somewhere on the planet, and they have the means to sell them. Such plants must be very productive and grow quickly from flask and carry many spikes and flowers per plant. The flowers must keep well and be attractive to the purchasing public and they must transport well without damage. In general cut flower orchids are select hybrids from a wide range of genera that produce large numbers of marketable flowers.
