Orchid Geeks is an "attack site"??

Has anyone else received the "attack site" warning for this site? I was surprised when I tried to sign in this morning. I could not get to Orchid Geeks without going through a bunch of other screens, and clicking on "this is not an attack site" pop-ups.

Apparently this came from Firefox and Google. Someone must be messin' with us!

Yes I received the the same popup. So far Firefox, F-Prot., and windows defender have apparently kept me from seeing the actual attack.

Hang tight, administrators are aware and working on it. In the meantime don't click on any links that may pop up.

Hi. I have gotten this message for two days, after crazy site behavior the day before. Still get the message on my computer, lucky I have a tablet I am using that I could just wipe if needed. Thanks for helping to fix it, what an annoyance on your end!!!

Just got an error - hopefully you guys can sort it out.

I had to sort out a similar issue, so I know how frustrating it can be!

I use Google Chrome and have been getting this warning for the last few days. Warning: Something's Not Right. Click on the link below.

Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for www.orchidgeeks.com/forum

If I go to IE and use Yahoo it comes up fine

This is the first time I have ever had an issue with this.

I thought last night that the problem was solved, but it looks like it is back this morning. Sure wish it would go away, even though I have a mac and thus less subject to viruses, I hesitate to log on here as long as this continues.

Programmer replied back that he has removed all the malware from the site.

It will take another 24 hours before google re-approves the site.

But after that there should be no more problems J

Fred - Sorry to report it is still having Google block orchidgeeks.com.
I happily can click through without any problem, but the message is still appearing.
Take Care

When I did a regular google search (leca and salt build up) The first hit was to his site with a warning (on Google) that "this site may harm your computer". Tonight.

I've checked several times today, and always gotten the warning box. But right now, it is not showing. This seems so strange, that it would come and go like that. I don't think it is a cookie issue, as several of us have cleared cookies repeatedly. Maybe the programmer hasn't actually gotten every last bit of bad code or malware?

I don't know if this will help or not but...the warning doesn't show w/Explorer but it does w/Chrome and Firefox.

I haven't stopped getting the warning since it appeared for me...I use Chrome and Firefox as my browsers. Since others are getting it on some computers but not others I tested the different browsers.

Again, I don't know if that helps or not...but it might be something the programmer can look into.

Hi Fred, not sure if my 2cents are anything worthwhile, are you using a shared hosting account?

I had a very similar (if not exact) problem with our hosting server whereby a number of our sites were continually being compromised and reinfected despite me clearing the infections.

Our situation was desperate and our solution was to migrate to a different hosting provider and the resubmit to Google.

Hopefully you will get a resolution real quick from your providers.

EDIT***
I checked in Firefox and got more info, here is what was thrown out:

What happened when Google visited this site?

Of the 279 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 5 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2012-03-04, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2012-02-28.

Malicious software includes 5 trojan(s). Successful infection resulted in an average of 6 new process(es) on the target machine.

Malicious software is hosted on 6 domain(s), including acle.osa.pl/, ainsblog.osa.pl/, rstorange.info/.

5 domain(s) appear to be functioning as intermediaries for distributing malware to visitors of this site, including pictures-host.in/, discount12-promo.in/, directmarketingmanage.in/.

This site was hosted on 1 network(s) including AS46664 (VOLUMEDRIVE).

On the last couple lines, it details the domains affected on your server, so you may need intervention from your providers.

Same here, so I have kept a low profile hoping it would be cleared up of go away.
Personally I do not want my computer destroyed by a virus or some other attack, my anti virus keeps on saying this.

Hmmm...I'm clicking in now with no warning; it does seem to come and go, doesn't it? I went in from Google search and didn't get the "may be harmful", but I'd seen it before.

I'm using Firefox most of the time. If I get a warning I try Safari, but they seem to operate the same. It's still all right for me this afternoon.

ETA: 6:00 I take it all back! On Safari right now I get the warning box. Not the same warning that 1joyceh posted though.

It took awhile for me to start getting the warnings, but now it is beginning to become fairly constant. Anytime a link for a page on this site appears as a hit on google.com, it is identified as a possible "may cause harm" link and won't let me open the page. Also, my anti-virus seems to want to clean my computer occasionally as a result of browsing to different areas of the website.

For the technicals on my computer, I am browsing with Internet Explorer 9 installed on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition and for security, MS Security Essentials, everything is as up to date as possible, update wise.

I decided not to post initially since it only occasionally threw up the red flag, but now I seem to get some sort of security alert activity several times a day now.

Malwarebytes is still blocking the intrusion. Maybe the site should be taken down until it's fixed so visitors aren't exposed to the issue? I find myself coming on here less and less as I am concerned as to how compromised this site has become.

Here is the most recent warning I get using Firefox:

Of the 295 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 5 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2012-03-08, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2012-02-28.

Oddly, using Safari the last visit is 2012-03-09, and the last suspicious content is 2012--3-08, yesterday. Other domains also show up as intermediaries.

Like Shannara, I'm hesitant to browse here. Sure wish this could be taken care of.

Sheesh! I've dealing with this for about two weeks, which is why I haven't been around. Didn't know how to contact anyone, since I couldn't get in. I thought must just be my system.

I just went into my preferences and shut of the security. Not the best thing to do, but I'm pretty well fortified.

Hi Paul,

I read your visitor message. I haven't been experiencing blank screens or screens that wouldn't load. That is strange.

I know that Fred and the programmer are working on this issue and I hope they resolve it soon. I'd hate to see such a good forum die as a result.

I cleaned out my cookies, temporary files, and history, and didn't get any warnings for the next several days. However, the warning is back this morning.

I usually use my phone to access the site, unless I want to write a relatively long post (such as this one), and I don't get any warnings when I use my phone.

What I mean by blank screens, is, for example: I just joined the group called California Orchid Geeks. To get to it, I generally go to my control panel to then go to Social groups. When I click on it, I get a blank screen. If I click on the discussion, I get a blank screen. This has never happened before, so I'm wondering if it has anything to do with this attack site issue.

I do remember, 2 or 3 weeks ago, an "intruder" of some kind signed up for Orchid Geeks and left some kind of islamic prayer in a video. He posted it several places on Geeks. Rather frightening, I must admit. He was eventually removed that very same day, but I wonder if that was the beginning of this problem.

I just hate to think such a wonderful site, with such wonderful people has to be compromised this way. Welcome to the "future", I guess...

This is probably why attendance is down on this site, I think a lot of people are just afraid to come back, or not allowed to. Hope this can be resolved soon. We need each other!

It's a Java element. My iPad refuses to handle it, and my iMac won't open the site at all.

I get it each day, read the Google "safe browsing" diagnostic, and then ignore it. Here's what it said today:

Of the 327 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 5 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2012-03-13, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2012-02-28.

It looks as though this warning will keep appearing for 90 days and then drop off, assuming no more "malicious software" is found. They keep revisiting just in case. Once I realized that, I don't feel that I'm taking a huge risk in just clicking through.

I went to their site and after getting info on how to disable the warning in FireFox, I made Geeks an "Exception" not to block it, BUT it STILL it blocks it.

WHAT gives them the right to block a site you want to visit, it is just another form of censorship.

My red box re-appears every time I re-start Firefox. Likewise for Safari, except that the "safe browsing" message in Safari is slightly different--different days for the last evidence of bad software. I turn my computer off at night, so I see the warning each day when I start up.

im getting very sick of the warnings, at the moment im bed ridden on doctors orders so i thought geeks would be a fantastic way to spend my day, i went on a day or two ago, and someone was asking about how to look after vanda's and i have a couple so i wrote this big long thing about how i treat mine, because i included a quote in the reply i "went advanced" and then when i went to post, because the stupid warning came up, the posting process didn;t work properly so my reply never got posted :'(

though a couple of you have mentioned firefox so i'll download that now and try it

Reg, as far as I know, there is nothing new. Have you read the thread on this topic in the Suggestions, Feedback section? There has been quite a bit of discussion.

Yes. I don't see any fixes.

From what I understand, nothing malicious has been found on the site since the end of February, but the warning will continue to show up for the next several months as a precaution.

Where did you see that? I haven't seen or gotten any info that the site is totally safe. In fact I sent a pm to Fred a week ago asking what was happening and he said the site owner relayed everything again to the programmer and he would see what the status is. I hadn't heard anything since and sent Fred another pm just this morning. I continue to use my iPhone when coming on the forum.

syndy, I think I am the one who posted that information originally. I get the red warning box each day when I first click on the geek site, and I click on a button that says "why was this warning posted?" Then I get the Google "safe browsing" advisory, which tells the last time the site was visited by Google and the last time anything malicious was found. That date is currently Feb. 28th. It looks like they visit the site every 2 or 3 days, and the 90 day figure is mentioned somewhere in the message too.

I copied part of the message in post #58 of the thread in the Feedback/Suggestion section.

Looking back, I see that I also copied (more of) the message in post #48 of the same thread. For some reason, I can't link them up right now.

Thanks for the details, Fishmom! I knew I'd seen that into somewhere on the forum.

I was wondering about that too... I thought I was the only one getting that message! I've been getting on here with my phones browser just to keep my computer safe.

Here is a link to an article about the safe browsing tool from Google. It explains how to use it to get a report on a given site. This is the source of the information I copied in the other thread.
