Hi Patti,
It is sooooooooo pretty! Time to get a really special photo for the competition!
I don't seem to be able to find the time to take pictures but both of mine have new root growth and new leaves showing. They are on the same piece of cork and seem to be "in sync" with each other!

Patti, your orchid looks so cute and stunning all at the same time!!! When looking at the pic of your orchid, it gave me both a kind and soothing impression. haha i know that sounds weird but it did! And the pot that it is in goes really well with it too!

nice 'growing'!!

Patti, It's absolutely beautiful I saw a little noid about twice the size of this at Wal-Mart. I seriously thought about getting it, but talked myself out of it because of the Naples Nights. Now I wish I had it--the coloration reminds me of something in an oriental flower arrangement--a classic beauty Good growing--I hope the blooms last for a really long time for you!!

Al, My Naples Night just put out a new leaf and has the start of a nice, fat, root.I have fallen in love with mounted orchids and am thinking about mounting this one. Tell me, how are yours doing on the mount? Are you growing them inside or outdoors for the summer?

Hi Pat,
I put all my phals outside on a covered deck last month. The temps then were in the 50's at night. Now the night time temps. are in the 60's. They are all doing well, both the mounts (mostly species) and the hybrids (in pots).
The P. Naples Nights are both mounted on the same piece of cork. I have them placed so they get a little brighter light than the others and both are doing well.

Go for the mounting! They look so natural and I think they perfer this way of growing. Besides, it's actually fun to do after the first one. LOL

I hope folks won't consider this a hi-jack but since Pat asked me about growing conditions for my P. Naples Nights I thought I'd show you where phals seem to do well in Maine for the summer time. They receive East/Northeast light, the roof is covered with opaque white fiberglass panels.

The P. Naples Nights plants are on the large piece of cork in the 'looking left' picture. Also in that picture you will notice a stand in the corner. A second stand has been added and these hold my phal seedlings, many of which are very hard to find crosses. I hope to get some blooms from them next year.

These pics were taken the day of set up and at least 2 more dozen phals have been added with the over-flow still in the house.......(I'm a very sick man!)

Questions? I love 'em, and I also love advice!

Al

Gah...I still need to get one of these! Lovely flowers Patti...did you have to chill them before it spiked or did it start spiking once you got it?

To all for the nice words. Al- your set-up is breathtaking! I wish I had a spot like that! What do you do with your mounts in the winter? That's my biggest problem with doing mounts. I don't know what I would do with them!

butt0n- I had the plant about a month, when a little "nub" started growing. I didn't do anything special. Since it was May, maybe we got a temp. drop in the house or something.

The first picture below was taken on April 29th. The second picture was on May 13th. I received the plant at the very beginning of April.

Hi Patti,
Regarding the mounts and winter. Last year I didn't have nearly as many as I do now and I hung them in my bay window.
This year I'm going to make a standing panel (maybe two) out of the white PVC lattice.
I'll either do a 'stand alone' panel or a two panel like the oriental 3 panel folding screens....you know what I mean?
I though I'd have a problem with humidity but I found that a good watering in the morning lasted 'cause most of the species phals like to get a bit drier in the winter anyway.
