That is really good. Since these are mini-Phals they do not grow new leaves very fast. I have a different hybrid from this same type (Sogo Grape) that still has only 2 leaves (both shriveled and slightly yellow) that is flowering on its third flower spike and for the second set of branches on this spike. Almost 20 flowers on a plant with horrible looking leaves. The leaves are so bad I have never offered it for sale.

Man the leaf is still growing quickly! I have noticed that it gets dry pretty quickly even with high humidity. So I water it a bit more than the other phals, of course it could be because of the smaller pot size or that it is closer to the fan.

My new leaf on mine is growing pretty fast too. Like lightning since I found it! Too bad the spike wasn't like that.

Very pretty little plant and obviously very happy with you. I wondered what it was when I saw it in the background of the pictures you posted of jewel orchids.

|
So its been 6 months now and I have to say your Phal looks much better now than it did when it came from the greenhouse. So you're certainly doing the right thing for it. Very well cared for! I would think it shouldn't be to much longer, if not this year than probably next year, before you see some spikes!

Naples night has her first new leaf for this year yay! Never bloomed yet though. I think probably because I had a few weeks of neglect on all my orchids over the winter and early spring

It's not anything that it can't bounce out of. Gotta love these little boogers. So hardy. I just want to pull my hair out cause the thing still hasn't bloomed for me.

Update time! first new leaf popping out this spring! I think it did better under lights as far as being so darn shiny haha! And it had more leaves then too! But the roots are growing like crazy and i expect it to grow just as many new leaves as it has in the past years in warm months. Maybe this will be the year it blooms for me??? Wish me luck!

Hard to say without some definate size comparators handy, but your leaves actually look a little larger than mine - good job. Absolutely no reason you shouldn't have a spike this fall. Mine bloomed last year along with all my other hybrid phals. Since I received my first one from Jerry in the summer with blooms I thought maybe it was a later spring or early summer bloomer - but nope - just your standard bloom time. Will look forward to seeing a nice set of blooms in about six months! |

|
Its in a 4 inch pot now if that helps guage the leaf size. I am hopeful but i have issues getting phals to bloom lol! I have yet to bloom one lol!

LOL - don't give up! Don't worry about it for the next 4-5 months - just give it/them as much warmth and other good culture as you can - grow them leaves and roots! Come fall we can talk about what you need to do to get some spikes coming out.......looks great for now........

Awesome! Way to grow! I unfortunately killed mine over the winter never got it to bloom. I have never been able to get any type of phal to rebloom...i have gotten a few of the species phals to grow a spike but they always just stall and nothing ever happenes on them. In fact I have a cornu cervi with one 4 inch spike on it right now and another spike poping out. I don't know what my deal with phals is lol! I'm on the hunt for another Naples Night if anyone sees any listed somewhere please let me know. Even though I killed it and I never got it to bloom it grew leaves like mad for me and the leaves were so beautiful! maybe if I could find another one and gave it another try i would get lucky and figure out why I can't get any phals to rebloom lol! I think I need somebody to literally coach me through getting a phal to bloom lol! I know what they need to initiate the spike i just can't figure out what the issue is lol!

k-chan - mine did really well on my SE window. i got a spike and blooms on time w/ all the other Phals. i did notice that this one needed more water than the rest so i added a deep humidity tray to it. seems to have benefitted from it and put on a show.

LOL! I knew you were gonna ask that haha! Well they are in a 240 degrees SW (in picture) exposure farthest from the window except for the cornu cervi, its right by the window. A while back I had moved my whole orchid shelf to my only other window which faces 140 degrees SE. But the problem with that was the over hang from the roof on my apartment building blocked a lot of light and they slowed down in growth. I regret moving into to this apartment because I don't have the room for adding grow lights and because of the limited space I have to keep all the plants together on the one shelf. I miss my old place because I had windows in every direction and had lights set up there for them.

Kanna! Yours looks great! I have window/light issues. I think it's because they don't get morning light, its all in the afternoon to evenings. I need to move so I can add light or use a different exposure window lol!
