Very cute and wonderfully coloured flowers. I hope we can see them all fully open, it would make for a very nice display.

Yay! Now mine bloomed last year, but it only had 4 blooms. I knew that the ones that had time to build up stamina would bloom out better! That's gorgeous, Damien!

Just showing my jealosy here. Mine still hasn't done a thing but spit new leaves.

Love the bloom.

Mine is mounted so I guess during the little cold snaps here and there and the fast evaporation of moisture that ensues in a mounted plant caused it to bloom. That is what I think happen. Although, Patti's flowers seemed larger than mine.

Great job Damien, such a soft, tranquil color.
Mine just grow leaves, which is nice but would love to be surprised by a spike.
They are mounted and at least "in sync" as each is putting out a new leaf at the same time.

Thanks for showing us what is to be.

Al

This is an update. I can't believe this. This is the most blooms I have ever received from a Phal. 10 flowers in total...for now.

Thank you for the kind compliments everyone.

Jenny, my mounted plants get the least TLC from all of my other plants. They dry out the fastest, they get less fertilizer than my potted plants. I am thinking it was the small cold snaps we experienced down here in S. FL. By cold snaps I mean one day its 80 degree nights and the next day a front comes in and bam!... its 55-60 degrees. That happened a few times and every time it would bring in some rain. I am thinking those abrupt changes in temperature stimulated the plant to push spikes. Every single Phal I have including my parents have spiked and bloomed.

My phals have all spiked and are in bloom or getting ready to bloom except Naples Night. Maybe I will have to wait until next year.

Naples Nights likes to be much wetter than other Phals. The grower who developed it also agreed that it takes a lot of water.

Mine looked terrible until I moved them to the shadehouse under the bench where it got rained on every day over the summer. When I had them on the porch and watered every couple of days the started to wilt.

This was the purpose of the hybrid project, wasn't it, to compare different growing conditions.

The ironic part of it all is that the moss i used to mount it would almost always be dried. I am guess that as soon as little more humid down here it took off.

What about light conditions? I have mine in the east window as close to it without kissing it. Is yours getting as much light, more, less?

The blooming issues is going to lead me to insanity on this one!!!

Me too Jenny!
Mine is in a West window and mounted (2 on cork). At least the new leaves are in sync. Each plant has a new one growing at the same rate.

Seems like mine likes more light than my other Phals. I have it in a south window, back a little, with additional artificial light.

My other Phals are in an east window.

Jenny, I am embarrassed to have not answered your question, sorry. Anyway, if it is of any use...this plant had very little light around 500-650 FC's. During the winter months (if you want to call it that, lol) my backyard doesn't receive any direct sunlight. Just now (beginning of May) will my backyard be engulfed with light.

I might have received blooms, I think, because of the fluctuations in temperature through our winter months. I am telling you Jen, over here in Miami one day its 85, they other its 60. I have heard that many mass production nurseries simulate a climate change to promote spikes in Phal. Correct me if I'm wrong.
