Lookin' good! Are you going to grow it "as is" for awhile or repot into something else?
(no reason particularly to change up for awhile - just curious)

Not sure yet; the medium is very fresh and I did take a sneak peek at the roots which look nice; so I may keep it "as is" until it's time for a pot ugrade It fits in nicely with all our other phals, very satisfied!

Looks nice. I agree with you. The medium on mine looks good also and a pot is right size. I wont be repoting mine soon either.

Here is an update, I decided to mount it a while back after a periodic root check showed some minor deterioration. Got some new roots and another new leaf pushing through, so it seems to be settling in well now.

Lookin' good! That is a unique mount that should get even more attractive as your plant settles in and really grabs onto it. Good job.

Spike

Update on our little Phalaenopsis; we have spike
I was a bit surprised by this as the plant seems a bit premature yet. It's also developing a new leaf after losing the original bottom one; the second original bottom leaf has been slowly turning yellow as well; though I am not concerned by this as the others are very healthy. The rest of the plant is growing great , lots of fat roots tucked into the moss and a few making their way down the top.

are you sure it is a spike? It looks like a basal keiki to me with the tow leaves just starting to develop.

That sure is a possibilty, I've been leaning torwards spike but with the possibilty of a basal kieki in mind. Time will tell I suppose; as I mentioned I was surprised to see a spike developing so soon, we shall see. Tkx for your observations. (Secretly hoping for a spike though )

i hope it turns out to be a spike but i have a feeling it is a keiki though. Keikis are regarded as more rare than spikes and it is really early to tell for sure. But if it turns out to be a keiki then next season you will have double the spikes

Spike is confirmed! And yes that's a paperclip you see; it's a windowsill warrior; so getting the spike to grow upwards is still a bit of a task for me.

Excellent! I've found that this plant looks very nice with more of a hanging type presentation - spikes tend to be on the smaller diameter side and also shorter than most hybrids sold today. Looking forward to seeing what kind of bloom you get. Several people in my society have brought in flowering plants to the meetings the past few months and the variation is quite amazing - nearly all white and somewhat spindly flowers to quite pink and more full shaped blooms.

Thanks for the added info Mayres, I thought the spike was very small in diameter but figured that due to the realative size of the plant. Can't wait for some blooms, as we have nothing in bloom right now, lots of spike action but no blooms to brighten up the darkening days.

Mine is really growing nicely, 2 new leaves since I got it, but I keep looking for that spike and it hasn't appeared yet. I'm going to show your picture to it, maybe it will get the hint.

Blooms

Yay! My poor little guy finally bloomed!!! Been a rough road for this little one (partly my fault ) I had to cut last years spike off since the plant was just not healthy enough to sustain it. But after remounting it and some serious tlc were back in action!

What surprised me about this Phal. is the spike is very thin, yet pliable and sturdy! It's impressive considering it's size!
