Phalaenopsis amboinensis

Hi everybody,

Here's my amboi. It arrived on April 4, same day as Jenny's from Orchard Hill. A couple of weeks later after reading a post from one of you (sorry, don't remember who) that said they really like warmth, I moved her off my chilly sun porch into less light, less humidity, and warmer days and nights.

Then on April 28, because she weren't doin nothin, I made her one of the first plants I've tried in S/H. Then moved her back to sun porch because our nights are getting warmer and I can keep the humidity high there (60%). She seems to love it. No new leaves, no spike, but the roots are celebrating!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Norm

Please keep us updated as to how your phal is doing in S/H. I am thinking of trying my first one in hydroton, but am a bit unsure because I've always had such good results with bark-mix. Guess I'm thinking along the lines of "if it isn't broken, don't try to fix it

BTW, your plant looks very happy!!

I have never used s/h either but I am assuming it helps cut down on rot though right? Those roots look awesome! I'm really interested in seeing plants grown in s/h because I'm thinking about potting some in it when I order from jerry.

Kortney~ There is still a chance with rot, but you also have to deal with algae. The plus side is most orchids love it. I say this cause there are certain ones that if you try S/H with them it spells certain doom. Tolumnias are one. Some Catts can't hack it either. Phals and most Oncidiums love it as with Neos. Check the S/H threads and read as much as you can. Ask a lot of questions too.

Sorry I hijacked your thread Norm....Back to the Amboinensis.

No "sorry" needed. The tangents are part of the pleasure.

I'll keep you all posted.
