Phalaenopsis amboinensis

Bought on April Fool's Day Tuesday, 4/1/2008 and received it Friday, 4/4/2008. Phal was in a 2 1/2" plastic pot that contained bark, perlite, dynarock and fancy goldflakes . The plant had 5 leaves, now 4, but looks like it will lose another leaf to stress. I repotted today in moss, perlite and charcoal and into a clay pot. I will be watching for further stress and if the moss doesn't work for me will switch to S/H.

4/20/2008 Week 3

This plant has slapped on the breaks and went from creeping to all stop.

It's stalled, and I can't seem to kick start it. Suggestions?

You're in too big a hurry. Give the plant a chance. I would not worry about lack of growth on a new Phal for about 6 months, and if distracted, which I often am by so many other plants, I probably would not take any notice unless the plant starts to go seriously down hill. Losing 1 out of 5 leaves is hardly mentionable. This plant is originally from Oak Hill, from the looks of the tag. I just picked up 5 of these at the wholesale price for our Silent Auctions (after extracting one for me) and they are smaller with 2 to 4 leaves in 2.25" pots.

Constantly moving plants from mix to mix is not good for them, and SH is a little rough on any plant at the start. Roots are rarely already adapted to SH.

Mine hasn't done anything either- but I compare it to a shy child that needs time to get used to where it is before coming out of it's shell. Some just grow like the blazes! They're like people that can instantly be the life of the party! They're all as different from each other as humans are. Give the little guy some time....

The leaves perked up and the roots look a lot better (The third leaf is actually hiding under the right side). Actually overall the plant looks healthier. Maybe she'll start to grow!

Your Phal looks gorgeous Jenny. I wish mine had arrived looking half as decent as yours. Mine has nicks all over the leaves, skinny, ugly leaves. I bought mine from Larry's Orchids. Have a look at mine and you'll feel like you hit pay-dirt!

Just keep her green, Jenny. She'll take off when she's ready . Mine looks the same as yours. It's planted in Mike's Coir/Perlite/Charcoal mix.

Still looks good. It has all kinds of new roots on bottom! I just wish it would put that kind of effort into a leaf or spike or something that is a little more noticeable. Oh and another thing. The leaves are at an almost "Stand at attention" attitude. You can't even see the third leaf.

New roots are a good sign! New roots mean new growth eventually! It's gonna happen...

She's still thinking... The plant looks really healthy,... it's just a matter of time.

Not to worry.... Any day now, you'll see that tiny leaf poking out from the center and say, "that Patti sure was right!"

It hates me. Still no progression. I have moved it closer to the light thinking that maybe in some deranged way, this will help. It's been there now for three days and I've been keeping a close eye on it for burn. Either it will will lay and fry or it will jump and at least spit a leaf at me

Any suggestions? Or am I still jumping the gun on this one?
