Paph spicerianum Up date

A watched pot never boils. Guess thats true with Orchids in that a watched orchid never blooms. Was on vacation for two weeks and this little paph, sprouted two new leaves ANDDDDDDDDDDD is budding. One potential trouble I see is the the bud is rising from the center of the old growth. Is this normal for this plant or is this a terminal bud?

I believe that's how they always bloom. All of mine have, anyways. The new growth is where the next bloom will come from. The old growth won't die, and it adds strength to the entire plant. It's good to let the plant get nice and full. more growths = more strength and more blooms! My spicerianum is in spike, also. It's got a problem with the dorsal...We'll see how it turns out!

Hi Hummer.
Congrats on the flowering of the spicerianum, they are a very charming flower.
One of my favorite Paphs species.
Patti is correct in that they only flower on the the mature growths, never flower again from that growth but usually put out quiet a few new growths each season and can develop into a nice speciment in a few years time.

Hi Jenny.
Every time one walks into their orchid house and see flower spike, they should be aware that the excitement is a hazard to ones health.
Toooooooooo much excitement.
I visit mine about 10 times a day with extreme care.

Hummer or Phalpal: Do either of you have a picture of your plant when it first started to form a spike? My spice has a growth coming from the center of the most mature growth. At first, I thought it was a new leaf, but it resembles a catt sheath. It looks like a folded-over leaf. When I hold it up to the light, it looks like something's inside!
