Paph spicerianum

Here is my arrival photo of Paph spicerianum; wish me luck this is my first Paph!! I have it in a coir/dynarock/new zealand bark mix, repotted April 9, 2008. I will grow it under T5's in the very shady area off to the side with a few Phal species and mounts, about 700 fc. The first picture shows a few baby fans beginning to grow.

PhalPal,

It was a wise choice to use a translucent pot for your first paph. This way you will be able to see how moist the mix is under the surface. It should always stay slightly moist. Sometimes when I describe it to new paph growers I say they like to be a little damp. I also think the species project has chosen well for which species paph to grow. In my opinion, spicerianum is one of the more forgiving and vigorous species.

Thanks Kevin for the input. I added a little NZ bark to made my all around coir mix a little more moisture retentive. I'm loving the plastic pots and have nearly all my orchids in them now. It's fun to see little green root tips thru the plastic, let's me know everything is okay in there.
