Those are so pretty. I'll have to keep an eye out for one of those. I was also going to guess Rishad has a night blooming cereus. |

Fred: I have two of these: one blooms around Thanksgiving (or a little earlier) and the other at Christmas. The trick for blooming is to keep it outdoors until the first frost which helps it set its buds. In addition, although sometimes the "leaves" look dead, they really are not and will bloom from browning "leaves." These are long lived plants. I've had mine for about 20 years each! I pay them little attention (unlike my orchids) and they bloom for me each year.

![]() Again, the color on yours is very pretty! I'll be looking for that color this coming season. Thanks for sharing it! Risa -- I think what you probably have it often referred to as the Christmas Cactus or Holiday Cactus...it's a Schlumbergera. What Fred has....at least it looks like it...is an Orchid Cactus....very similar in looks but this is an Epiphyllum. Patti...chances are Rishad does have an Epi. True Epis bloom at night where as what most of us have are newer Epi hybrids which bloom during the day. They (growers) created these hybrids w/day time blooming because well...as always is the case....more people will buy a day bloomer than a night bloomer. Money, money, money. Personally, I've been looking for a true Epi but have yet to find one. For everyone interested in this beautiful plant...here's a great link to learn more.... Epiphyllums ... Epi Hybrids ... Orchid Cactus

I can not wait for this cacti to have some size my wife and I are lucky we just look out of our full glass sliding door and we do see this all day ![]() not bad for a small cutting just over 12 months ago now I have got friends around here that have asked me for a cutting ![]() I really don't want to disturb this one |
| ||||
|
Pretty color on that ORchid Cactus! Mine is yellow, but has not bloomed yet. I was told that I can feed it ORchid food, so I did and it has doubled in size since the little cutting I got to begin with |
| ||||
|
thank you for that information Tara ![]() I look forward to seeing yours in flower I have never seen a yellow one |
