Not an orchids...blooming Senecio...

Senecio radicans aka String of Bananas....

My first bloom on this one...too cute and it smells like cinnamon. Yum!

You can kind of see all the little blooms on each of the ends....

Upclose shots of the side and front....

Nice close ups. I've got one of those but didn't know what it was called. It was just labled "succulent." String of bananas fits. It gave me one bloom about three months ago. But it has grown like crazy hanging in the back yard. It is about four feet long and about to hit the ground. I was thinking I should give it a "hair cut."

How funny! I grew string of pearls years ago- never saw the bananas! Mine never bloomed. What a cute blossom!

Thanks guys!!

lmartiny... I gave mine a haircut last year...no blooms. No haircut this year...blooms. ?? That may have done it...maybe not...I'm not sure. I did look it up and if they bloom it's in the winter so I'd say it'd probably be ok to trim in the spring.

Another difference over last year....(just bought it in the spring of 07) was the cool temps it lived through this fall. When I brought the orchids inside (he was in a tree w/them) I forgot to bring him in. He got hit with some pretty cool night temps...down in the low 40's for about 2 weeks before I remembered him and the string of pearls. I don't know but maybe that did it. ?? When I did finally remember... he had these little buds all over the place. Plus, during that time...no watering....only got a bit of rain...and he was extremely parched.

Also looks like the string of pearls is doing something on the ends of it's tendrils. ?? Hoping...hoping...hoping that one blooms too. Fingers crossed.

Katrina, I think I will give it a haircut. I've got some others that need it too. Plan to start cuttings in a hanging pot for a friend. I love to propagate and share with friends.
My husband brought home a piece of "string of pearls" which I promptly planted and brought into the patio to keep an eye on it. My cat "promptly" messed with it and it was history. I see them from time to time at Lowe's. I've been tempted to get another one. I've had some good luck with some succulents. I might have to get one.

Yep...I know the kitty thing....we have three but one of them (cosmo) really, really likes to eat plants. Well...not so much eat them...just mar them. I have more munched orchids leaf tips than I care to count.
