I counted all my Hippeasrtims yesterday 130 of them all different colors including doubles also

I have all my Fathers Hippys now I brought the last lot home when I went Melbourne to see my mother she could not look after them anymore as she is now in a nursing home my mother still had about 30 hippys at her place
she told me to take them home.

I hope you get that spider mite under control

I only know them as Amaryllis. They are very showy plants. I bet they are just breathtaking when all in bloom. Do you grow all yours in pots?

Sorry to hear your mom is in poor health. At least she knows the plants will be in good hands.

That's neat. Wish I had the time and room to start another collection of plants. Question: Do the bulbs multiply yearly like daffodils? If so, how long does it take from one bulb to two? Just in case I want to one day collect them. Right now I can hardly find enough space for all the Cyms. I dread the next time I need to divide them.

I took on the Hippys years ago almost 5 to be exact when my Father died
for I am the only other member of my family that knows how to grow them thanks to my Fathers knowledge. He Taught me well..

yes the bulbs do multiply I take the young bulbs off as soon as they are free from the mother plant. I find that if the bulb is left mother bulb is left to put out young bulbs all the time the mother plant will not flower.

I do however re pot these every year into normal potting mix, remove the young bulbs in winter so the mother plant will flower after the re pot
Also the first day of winter I don't give them any water at all until the first day of spring

Sounds like a lot of work Fred. I know it's worth it when it blooms. One of these days I'll either get rich and buy a large lot or retired and have a lot of time. Either of those two things will allow me to get another collection.

Hi Fred.
Congrats on the collection. Queen of the bulb family.
I love them.
