| I know what it is... It's PRETTY!! No, I have never seen anything like that before. The way the leaves are looks like an Iris. Maybe it is in that family. You may want to ask the people at the greenhouse or something.

| Hello, The orange one is probably Candy Lily. This site, Flower Gardening , describes it as a cross. It could be the blackberry lily parent, but it is a little too bright orange for that. Best Garden on the Web - Blackberry Lily or Leopard Lily (Belamcanda chinensis) , shows the blackberry lily parent and a cute little spider. The plant behind it looks most like a hydrangea. No guesses as to which one without flowers. Some hydrangeas flower on "old wood", only from buds that overwintered on last years canes, and some flower on this years growth or "new wood". Since it is not blooming or at least showing buds by now, my best thought here is that it was cut back to far, all the old canes removed to near ground level in the fall or early spring and that this one needs some old wood to bloom. Most recommendations are to prune hydrangeas in the spring but not too far back. Gardening Australia - Fact Sheet: Pruning Hydrangeas , gives a short paragraph and picture on pruning hydrangeas. I hope this helps. ![]() |

| Thanks! I like how they come in different colors (Greenhouse gal's links show this). Maybe I will get some more to plant alongside it. And I like the name-Candy lily! As for the potential hydrangea bush-you might be right about it. When we moved in, it was pretty much just barely coming out of the ground, like it had been MOWED down. I almost pulled it up mistaking it for weeds. A lot of the townhouses nearby have them-and they are all blooming. The colors are very vivid here, more so than other hydrangeas I've seen. I'll let it grow and see if it blooms for me next summer. |

| That's a hydrangea for sure. You can change the color to blue by making the soil acidic. Post a pic. when it blooms. I love hydrangeas. I have some and they all come out pink. I've been meaning to try to get blue one of these days.
