Lipstick Plant

I was recently given a cutting of a lipstick plant, and was wondering if there's any special way to root it, right now it's just down in some water and getting lots of indirect light

thanks,

-chowder

Aeschynanthus is, as a whole, an epiphytic genus. It should be easy to root at a node in moist soil. I would worry about rotting it by keeping it in water, but I dont really know.

I have a black lipstick Pagoda,,as it continues to grow out of it's basket I take clippings and just stick it in some soil and it's happy. The blooms are evil looking though, like the jaws of a venus fly trap but more terifying...

It's in the same genus as African Violets I believe so, I think it would root best in moist soil, enclosed in a plastic bag for humidity. If you could, get some rooting hormone to prevent rotting before rooting. I've had little luck rooting anything in water. coco choir as a rooting medium i thing works best.

Yeah, lipstick plants and goldfish plants alike do look like they're succulents.

Maybe lipstick applies to more than one plant type as mine is not a succulent.

Nor is mine... I'll be heading to the nursery today and will inquire about it since it's where I purchased my pagoda a few yeas back... Though it's the only lipstick plant i've seen since unearthing this thread... hmmmm...
