Japanese Maple And Green Fly!

My lovely young Japanese Maple has gree fly! not over run but they are there.
There is a spider living in the small tree but I dont think he himself can sort out the whole situation.

Leaves are damaged. This could be sun damage or it could be those darn flies!

Ive heard about trying to get ladybirds into the garden which will eat the green fly but im not able to do that...I have read to use washing up liquid, a small ammount into a spray bottle with water.

Would you suggest doing this or can maples survive green fly and not need any human help?

Thank you

xxxxx

I've never dealt with either, MissConnie, Insecticidal soaps may help.

Green flys are prone to bit warm blooded creature and use the trees as a way to stay out of the heat. They should not be harming your tree. Japanes maples need shade or the leaves will turn brown from the tips back. if this is what your seeing then its getting to much sun and should be replanted in a shady area. Dedending on the virity they also do very well in large potts which makes it easyier to find the right place for them. I have 4 that have been potted for years. Around Oct I re plant them in the ground for the winter and then re pot again in march or april.

Pictures would help. I agree with Joe that maples are sensitive to sun burn. I have a large one in front of the house and it too had a spider in it. Although he was after the flying moths.

must be suffering sunburn then.
But there is green fly on the maple...are they just shading from the sun under the leaves then?
