Worm tea for the garden

Interestingly enough - my local nursery (which is a grower's nursery) advised me to use the worm tea on the Martha Washington geraniums I purchased recently. I'm advised that they DO NOT like much nitrogen. The zonal type geraniums don't seem to be fussy and I've used many different brands of fertilizer on them. The Martha's are a bit different.

Therefore, I'm expanding my use of the worm tea to some other garden plants. This will be a learning experience as I had a few problems last year using the worm tea on delicate flowers, like impatients and petunias. They hated it! The flowers curled up, turned brownish and looked awful. Of course, it may have had nothing to do with the worm tea, could have been a fusarium or fungal problem, but the flowers looked really BAD overnight after using the worm tea. So, I'm proceeding cautiously.

I know that many of you use the worm tea on your orchids, which is great, but what other plants are you using it for?

I put it on columbine and a heuchera and they both died. If I do try it in the garden again, I'll use it very, very dilute.

I'm glad you started this thread Sharyn. I was considering using it on some of my annuals
as well and also some of my indoor tropicals (Bromliads, Jasmine). I'm a little leary since
I tried it on my african violets last year and the results was not very good. Hopefully
some others that have used worm tea on other plants can let us know their results.

Worm Tea

Hi.
I have used worn tea a bit over the years when I can get it free.
It needs to be diluted a far bit 10 to 1 or more.
Mine came from a orchid nurserys supplies who used it a lot on his orchids.
I have used it diluted at 10 to 1 as a tonic only
Once a week or so on orchids and when plants seedling in the garden
the same.
I would not use it as a general purpose fertilizer but just as a tonic and to put the microhiza back into the soil etc.

Same on newly potted orchids.

Cheerio
Ron
