Stargazer

The Stargazer lilies are everywhere around Florida now, my favorite flower in the whole world. These and most lilies are poisonous to cats. I've forewarned my Lilly cat that if she continues to want to eat my orchids, I'll give her the Stargazer for dessert. I have this potted up on the top shelf.

Sandra those are soooo pretty. I have stargazers just coming up too. They are only 3" tall so won't bloom for awhile. I got a bag of bulbs from Costco earlier this year and put them in the ground. I love the scent they give. Then again, I love all flowers with a scent.
Gardenias, Pikaki, plumeria, roses,etc....

Those big fat anthers dropped their orange pollen all over my white shorts today. It took 2 machine washings in Clorox to get it out.

Solay, I agree with you, especially, gardenias!

Those are beautiful! We have wild ones that grow in Indiana along side ditches and feilds and other random places sometimes but they are all orange. I have never ever ever seen lilies so beautiful!

Orange? Sure those are not day lilies instead? Doesn't matter I love them too. No scent but pretty and hardy!

I have a pair of white stargazers; last year they reached over 6 feet in height. Long period of sequential blooms. I definitely plan to get some more.

I love Stargazers... but that pollen is a pain to get out of things! A friend used them in her wedding a couple years ago and I ended up with bright orange pollen on my expensive bridesmaid's dress (all of the bridesmaids were carrying flowers, in addition to the bride)!

The wild ones that you see are Tiger Lillies/Day Lillies.

And speaking of lilies, here's my Lilly, dreaming about orchids.

And Bunny, who could care less about orchids. She loves people food, 6 lbs. but she can pack it. I call her my piggy girl.

Hi Sandra, nice to see other flower types on occasion, and how pretty your lillies are. I have some nice lillies in my patch but they will not be in flower for ages. Perked up my day!

Bill

I loved cats once too. I had 8 at one time. Then a few had to be given away after my mother moved into an apartment. My husband's not a cat lover so I can't get one. Anyway, I never wanted another one after my favorite one died in my arms years ago. Her name was Pumpkin.
My mother has a male named Tiger now. But we all call him Broken Leg cause he had a broken leg when I found him on the street. He's fat and extra lazy.

I love Stargazer ! When I was a floral designer...Many moons ago!... We always removed the pollen heads gently before putting them in bouquets. For just the reason that you mention!

I had several Asiatic-type lilies at my old house. The only one I dug up was Stargazer as it was a bulb that I bought from one of my children during a fund-raiser at school. I had to bring it with me for sentimental reasons. I stuck it in the ground in November. It's coming up! I love the color of it- so rich...

Thank you Sandra for the beautiful photos!

I LOVE Bunny and Lilly, too! I love kitties! Your two are so cute!!!

Those are beautiful Sandra!

Do you grow them in the ground or a pot?

I tried putting some in the ground cause I picked up a bag at Costco last year. I didn't have any luck with them. Maybe because we don't really have a winter down here.

Love the fragrance!
