I used to have one of these, they are one of the prettiest aren't they? Must look out for one, I don't get maidenhair ones any more as I kill them all!

I can kill a fern by looking at it! Since I love plants I try to avoid them.

I have two of them in a pot with some other plants (Philodendron). They were doing fine until last week. Both are shedding the leaves and drying up.

I may try to move them into smaller pots soon.I bought them for less than $5 each ( I think) last spring.

Hello, I let the surface of the potting medium dry out between waterings. This one likes to be moist but not wet. Keep it in bright but indirect light. Direct sunlight will burn the leaves in summer. I give it a diluted fertilizer (about one quarter strenght) watering every month or so. I also mist the foliage every morning. You don't want the leaves to be wet at night. Cheers.

These ferns like to be relatively warm, 60-65 degrees F minimum, 80 maximum. However, mine has tolerated night time lows in the fifties and even high forties for a short time with no ill effect. They like bright indirect light, no direct sun in summer, in winter some direct sun is just fine in northern climates.
Cheers.

After living for over a decade in the Pacific Northwest, I've come to consider ferns as weeds. Before moving here, I never thought I would be using a weed whacker to knock back sword ferns to make a path through the woods. The fern spores float through the air, sneak through the tiniest cracks, and come up in the orchid pots in my greenhouse. They're worse than oxalis.
