My Pretty White Christmas Cactus

I got this Christmas Cactus the other day; I have never seen a white one. it is just a beautiful plant and thought I would share. Besides, it gives me more practice posting pictures with my new found methods.

Yes!! white looks very pretty. I have been looking for one for sometime.

I think I got one today. There was only one with 'white' buds. So I bought it assuming it will open up to be pure white.

I was planning to pot it with a pink one. But I see, from your photo, that keeping it separate would look even better.

I will post the picture tomorrow.

Very pretty Connie and it matches so nicely in the kitchen and in that pot. I've got the Christmas Cactus's in every color, including white. I keep telling myself I have enough and 'no more!' but I came home with another one (red) last week. They're irresistible. Enjoy!

Here is the plant I bought yesterday. I will repot it today (ran out of pots )

I hope it is a white. The buds do NOT have even a tinge of pink except at the base.

Thanks everyone! Pikevi yours looks like a white one to me. My buds look exactly like yours. I especially love that this plant is snow white except for one long bright red pistil shooting out of the center. Please post pics when you get a bloom.

Bill, these can take regular potting soil though a better draining soil recipe is suggested. I have some that are 8 years old now and are still growing really nicely.

PhalPal: I will surely post a picture when it blloms. It was pretty hard to track down a white. Sandra is lucky. She has had a white for a long time.

sandra: I did mix sand and a little of both saw dust and peat moss to the mix. I don't remember if it was your advice or something I found out on the net about adding sand.

It is working out Ok , so far

I had a white one when I lived in Ireland, but this one is a cheapy from the local supermarket. ( well actually it's a group of 3 cuttings from the original.)

Well worth the effort.

Beautiful cupcake!!! Really nice for a cheapie. I need a farm for all the lovely plants I want, one in every color. Sort of like a Noah's Ark for plants...well....okay....the animals can come too.

Ah. When I saw the orchid pot, I thought you had potted the Schlumbergera in bark (which I think would be a plausible thing to try). But you haven't actually repotted it. -- Bill

OK, I know I said, 'no more' but I just added a tangerine colored one to the collection. This thread is contagious.

Hi everyone,

I bought a huge white Christmas cactus the other day. So far I have managed to keep the buds, and one is starting to bloom. I was wondering how everyone waters these? Do you soak or spray? I know the instructions say to water when it is dry in the top inch or two of soil. Any advice is appreciated, the last one that I had I killed .

brookn I keep mine a little on the slighty damp side. Now THAT'S specific! I don't allow it to dry out at all. I pour a little water through the top without drenching. I do put mine out on the patio for some soft sun during the day, and in years past when I did not do this they dropped their buds and died on me. Even tho most tags say deep shade, I don't believe it.
