Grandma's African Violet

Just thought you'd like to see the kid of a nearly 30 yr. old African Violet. Grandma passed in 1990 at the ripe old age of 99 and dad brought home a new pup from her violet plant at that time. She had already had the plant for well over a decade, generously giving all the relatives her newly planted pups.

My dad turned 84 last month and sure enough, Grandma's plant bloomed again for his birthday. For the past 17 years that he's had this rememberance, it has bloomed and bloomed and bloomed! Now, isn't that delightful? The spirits are with us.

Thanks guys! I think for those of us who enjoy gardening and growing plants, it brings special memories and comfort to have a live rememberance of your loved one. Of course, Grandma is probably laughing her tail off that her plant keeps blooming despite my father's horrible neglect of her cherished plant.

What a lovely and touching story. Thanks for sharing it, Sharyn. A belated happy birthday to your dad.

The first plant I bought when I came to the U.S. was an African Violet. It's 12 years old this month....

Cheers,
Jo
