Night blooming Cereus

I bought this Cerues yesterday and potted it today. It looks very healthy and I hope I will be able to care for it until it blooms.

I also bought 2 Hoyas and one has red leaves at the tip.

Nice purchases pikevi.
Now if that doesn't prove that this forum feeds addiction, I don't know what does!

Note: I went by 2 nurseries today looking for a Hoya for myself... didn't have any luck. pooh

pikevi, if I might make a suggestion here. Hoyas grow best when they're in crowded pots. By putting the two you bought together in one pot, might encourage more growth activity. It will take forever for them to branch off in these large pots. Warm/hot, sunny, dry and crowded is a great recipe for the Hoya Ropes. Those pink tips will eventually turn green and the variegated ones, white & green.

Thanks everyone.

vivienne: I saw quite a number of those plants in the local garden centre. Keep trying. They may just be temporarily out of stock.

sandra: would getting 2 more Hoyas and planting them in help? ( for crowding)

It is the standard 8" (?) hanging pot.

Thanks.

Tess1: yes , it is. Red , green and white. This is the only one that had the variegation out of the 25 or so they had.

I probably would do that pikevi or downsize the pot and put the 2 of them together. Keep the pot crowded and the plant will reward you.

sandra:I will buy 2-3 more and plant them in (of course, grudgingly, since I'd rather spend the money on orchids). Thanks for the advice.

sandra: I did take your advice but I forgot to post a picture.

I have 4 Hoyas in one pot. If you think it is still not enough will buy one more to be planted in the centre.

Thanks.

pikevi, your hoya will grow but you won't see much activity. You want at least twice as much as what's there now. You want it very crowded, very. This plant was just a bunch of nubs a few months ago. By themselves, they would have remained very slow growing.

hhmmm... I think I will re-pot them in a smaller pot!

I can't afford to shell out more money to get more of them

Do you think they can be potted with the 'regular' Hoyas (srtraight leaves)?
I have two hanging pots with the regular ones.

Thanks.

They probably could but why would you want to do that? What attracted you to this plant will get lost among all the other growth. You'll have to play peek-a-boo to find it pikevi.

I was surprised to find this huge Night Blooming Cereus in a small boutique next to a coffee shop where I made a pit stop.It was planted in a big pot.

The owners allowed me to take this photo.

It was , at least ,2.5 metres (>7') tall.

Huge!

Did you ever downsize your Hoya potting pikevi? How did it come out?

I've been running out of room.....again! so I've been doing some consolidating. Took these 2 small Hoyas and put them together.

pikevi, you will love the night blooming cereus It is a beautiful plant and is very easy to root! All you have to do is put a piece in a pot with some soil and let it go. That easy. And in the summer the plant will bloom at night and fill the air with perfume! great purchase.
