dutchman's pipes

i got a seed pod off one of the dutchman's pipes that lives outside the smithsonian a couple summers ago; took months for the silly things to sprout, and then i only got two; i've been nursing them along and put them out in an eastern exposure this spring--and one of them bloomed!!

-pretend there's a picture here-

it's got at least three more buds too. my neighbors have been walking over and goggling at it. hee!

Hi Janet, You are a clever lady to raise the plant from seed and get it to flower. The link was very interesting and well presented. I hope you took note of the warning! When the buds open I hope you will post some pics.

Bill

i have pics, but my camera is film. one of these days i'll join the 21st century.

i noticed the warning; no one (human, feline or otherwise) seems to be eating the plants so i guess it's ok; also, as i mentioned, the smithsonian has three of these out in a public garden crawling with tourists, so i guess they're safe enough if you don't grind them up and drink them or anything.

Janet,I have fought against going digital ever since the first digi cameras came on the market. I was a member of the film only camera brigade until I eventually realised that the system was, from the point of view of cash outlay, ( film cost, processing cost, not to mention waiting for work being carried out in the photo shop ), that digi is the only way. I can experiment and shoot as many pics as I desire and if they all turn out bad I can simply delete them from the card and start again. I can put the card in a card reader and upload all the pics. into the computer, and print them if I wish. I can connect the camera to my tele and view the pics on the screen just after taking them. It is not ' pure ' photography but it is very convenient. There are many other plusses that I have not mentioned!!!

Give it some thought, Bill

we are on hard wired cable at the house. the resident geek is considering going wireless; when that happens, i'll probably get a laptop. if i get a laptop, i'll definitely get a digicam. but until then, since i don't have a computer to upload digipics to, i'll stick with the film cam. and i like film, i must admit.

but one of these days i'll get totally geekified....
