strange Jasmine

This is a Jasmine which I have not seen in many garden centres. I bought this one from the sidewalk in China Town ( I frequent the markets for the delicious green veggies) for $5 as a small plant in a small pot. It is more than 60 cm now.

The flowers have so many rows of petals that even a rose will be envious.

It is highly fragrant, flowerchild.

One flower will fill a small room with its scent( a bit of exaggeration??)

I love them too. It is a toss up between carnations and jasmines. Unfortunately both are hybridized indiscriminately and have lost the fragrance. Quantity vs. quality??

Lovely jasmine! It looks like an itty bitty English rose.

Are you sure it's a jasmine? The single flower looks like some sort of gardenia, and one of those flowers will scent a room and the leaves don't look like jasmine Cos they are usually divded into 7 small type leaflets, Judi

Hi pikevi,
That is definitely a Jasmine. My mum has a row of them in her garden.
I believe this is the variety used in Chinese Jasmine Tea, becuase of their frangrance.
Enjoy!

I would love to see where you have all these stunners you consistantly show up with here pikevi and this is a stunner. It must smell heavenly where you are. Jasmine and gardenias, my 2 favorites. And if I'm allowed a 3rd favorite, the pink stargazer lily which someone here posted a similar pic of just recently.

Speaking of China Town, I just realized what was missing from my life here in Florida. There's no China Town! Growing up in NY, it was a habitual part of the lifestyle. Great Chinese food here in Fla. but the scenery just doesn't make the grade!

Anyway, enjoy your beautiful jasmine!

Thanks Miki and sandra.

Miki: I know it is a Jasmine because of the unmistakable fragrance. It IS heavily scented.

sandra: I get lucky at times. Whereever I go I keep my eyes open for GREENS - veggies or plants My mom, MIL and my wife say that they will never lose me in the malls or supermarkets because they can always locate me where ever the greens are
