.. just out of curiosity.. are gloxinia related to african violets... and and can they also be propagated by leaf cuttings?

Yes they are related to AV's. They are both a part of the Gesneriaceae family. You can propagate them from leaf cuttings, but I believe the technique is a bit different than AV's. I think most people lay the leaf on the medium and pin it down. New plants will grow from the leaf. I've never tried this, but seem to remember reading that somewhere.

They are also very easy to grow from seed. I used to start 30-40 plants every spring. The seed is dust like, but once the plants get going, they grow fast and will often bloom within 4-6 months from sowing. It's kind of fun raisiing these and having a house full of blooming gloxinias for the price of a packet of seeds - $2-3.

Thanx for the info. im going to look it up in that one huge sunset book i have
i was starting to ge concerned because the one i bought at HD is starting develope rot or someting and id hate for such an interesting plant to go to waste
