| nepenthes miranda there was a home and garden show, and i saw this huge piture plants. it was only $35, so i had to buy it. this thing is beautiful. it has large pitures that look sort of like an orchid flower. some of these pitures are a foot in length. i will have to post some pictures. by the way, i have a 6-6-6 fertalizer, would it be acceptable to put fertalizer on it? thanks |

| will do. i found my camera and i will take some pics when i get the chance. if you want, i could get a culture sample of it and try to get it to grow from that. let me know. |

| Thanks flowerchild. I really need the sprayer badly to save time. I was there yesterday and it slipped my mind. I saw a pink and a white christmas cacti there when I bought the red one. But they were all gone I will try this week. |

| Pikevi, Do You have a Wal Mart? They are even cheaper there and they usually have several.

| Yes, brookn. Actually we have one less than 5km (approx 3 miles)from my place. But it is almost always crowded. I will check it out sometimes this week. And also the home depot which is another couple of kms (2 miles) from there. Thanks. |

| lowes and wal-mart are two of my faveorit places to shop for garden plants and seeds and supplies. it is too bad that i frown upon the styles of wal-mart, but if you can't beat em, join em |

| only use weak fertilisers on nepenthes, and no fertiliser on other carnivorous plants. I will have to post some picks of mine |
| ||||
| what fertilizer would you suggest for nepenthes? i've got schultz african violet schultz orchid special jack's 20-20-20 MSU tap water schultz 10-15-10 and the plant is in straight sphag, getting RO water. and it just ate a cricket.

| only use rain water to water it, or try and water monthly with rain water. tap water will leave mineral deposits behind which if they build up will kill it quite quickly. If its getting a meal every now and then, there is no real need to fertilise it |

| I am looking for a Nepenthes too but not at $100cad I have collected some rain water in two large containers ( used two unfolded inverted weighted umbrellas with holes in the middle to capture and collect the water) Did you say 'water once a month', tom499? ( Just making sure, thanks) |

| reverse osmosis water is sort of naked water--basically two hydrogen atoms hanging out with an oxygen atom; no minerals, no chemicals, zip. my venus flytrap gets it too. (it ate a fly a couple weeks ago. i'm also wondering about the monthly watering--this plant is on a windowsill; i try to keep it moist basically. or do you mean flush with rain or RO water monthly to wash out any deposits?

| sorry there, i meant that if you cannot water it weekly with rainwater, use tap water, then flush it through with rain water monthly. Nepenthes like to be kept moist at all times, so water accordingly to your climate =) |

| I saw a few nepenthes, about 6" high including the pitchers, for $14.95CAD each. These plants are not very common at the garden stores here. Would they grow to be huge too or are there different species of them?. They also had venus fly trap for under $5 CAD each but they were so tiny. |

| my nep was US$12 as i recall..... my flytrap was US$7 on sale. but i rarely see neps for sale. i want another sarracenia purpurea, but i haven't seen them for several years. i believe the neps will get as big as you let them, bearing in mind there are some whose pitchers average three inches long, and then there are the ones that can swallow a smallish dog--depends on the variety. mine gets bigger when it gets bugs to eat, otherwise it grows pretty slowly. i've seen examples of my plant (growing in greenhouses) that end up several feet long and tied to the benches to keep them off the floor.

| Only just noticed the plant you've bought. N. Miranda are a lowland N. and need to be kept hot and humid, most people grow them in terriariums because of the conditions they need. They are quite tricky otherwise. |
