What I did achieve in 2011

For one reason or another 2011 was rather manic, so forum time was limited. My existing orchids continued to re-bloom for me, but there were few additions.
Biggest disaster was my Habenaria radiatta going missing - I came home from work and the pot was empty! It was particularly frustrating as they were just coming into bud

There was a fair few additions and first bloomers outdoors............

Those are some interesting and beautiful blooms! Thanks for sharing them.

And I'm sorry about your Habenaria radiata. What a shame.

A few more.............

Hymenocallis festalis is another that has failed with me in the past. This year I
bought large bulbs and they bloomed very quickly!

Also from the same supplier I bought some bulbs for Scadoxus multiflorus. They sat there doing nothing for about ten weeks before the flower spike started to emerge. A week later I had this................

Lobelia laxiflora grows quickly from seed...............

Inspired by another forumer, I bought three pseudobulbs for Pleione "Tongariro" which over the course of the season multiplied to eleven viable and eight babies p/bulbs!

Lathyrus sativus azureus is a tremendous "Sweet Pea"!

Thank you! I'll have another go with them in 2013 - got a lot on my plate this year with the new house, and I want to take some time sorting the garden out too. I've a selection of shrubs and small trees that I've been collecting to go in, including two Clianthus puniceus (red and white forms). Also got three different Bauhinia species to work out how to care for, which I think will require the construction of a large greenhouse.

The Scadoxus with the dark background looks like fireworks. It's just spectacular.

All are wonderful as well.

Now that I'm no longer trying to do this whilst I'm supposed to be working I'll try and finish this off!

This year I discovered the delights of the Impatiens family. I was given cuttings from two plants and they grew really well.
Impatiens morsea..........

........and Impatiens niamniamensis............

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Bought some bulbs for Eucomis bicolor on a whim - I've now ordered several different Eucomis species for this year!

Eucomis propagate easily from leaf cuttings.

Uvularia grandiflora.

I added a couple of Salvia this year; Salvia "Wendy's Wish"..............

...........and S.discolor.............

If anyone has any tips on how to propagate it I'd love to hear as I can't get it to take!

This is getting a bit long so I'll complete it later!
Thanks for looking!

Thank you Orchids4me - I'm surprised that you don't see more of them in California.
I have Bauhinia and Markhea growing which may flower this year.

Last bunch of the best new plants in my garden in 2011.

I found the yellow form of Lotus berthelotii - great in hanging baskets.

Roscoea scillifolia

Tricyrtis "Taiwan Adbane"

Grevilla juniperina

And finally, my seed grown Plumbago capensis - love this plant!

Once again, thanks for looking!
