Yard walk - some blooms from summer to now

It can be slim pickings during certain times of the year. So I have tried to capture some of the more unusual blooms the past few months. I just never posted them. Now our first potential freeze is upon us (drat!) and it makes me appreciate it all the more.

I would love to see your yard in person, you have so much color and a real flair for design. I wish I could have some of those, especially that Brazilian sunset. Beautiful!

OK. I'm back again.
(had to take a break and haul/cover a bunch of plants. Eat dinner and such)
I love my plants, but come freeze time, I think we have to be nuts to have so many. Its a ton a work. I left the heavy lifters for hubby, but neither of us are getting younger. (or stronger....blob, blob!!)
So here are a few more pictures.
Yard walk - some blooms from summer to now-cactus-flower-5-size-comparison-2.jpg I've posted this before; but think its funny. Alex is much bigger now.

Yard walk - some blooms from summer to now-tropical-ranch-plant-1.jpg we picked this plant up at a neat place in south FL. It put out a long flower spike and the flowers looked like a daisy. Huh. I was expecting more but thats OK. It almost looks begonia like. There is a tag but I forgot to look today and all is buttoned up now for the cold. I might try starting one from a leaf, like a begonia.

Yard walk - some blooms from summer to now-tropical-ranch-plant-2.jpg

Yard walk - some blooms from summer to now-alex-grinning-and-a-running.jpgAlex racing around the yard. Geez, you'd think he was a greyhound or something.

We've protected as much as we could but there will be casualties. I wrapped the vine on the post, but think it may succomb. Many come back. It just takes time.

Lovely blooms!

Do you know the "proper" name of the very first plant (titled Flamingo)?

I can swap - the unidentified plant in the last post but one is Eucomis, possibly E.comosa.
This is my E.comosa "Sparkling Burgundy" for some comparison.............

There are too many for me to be accurate on the exact species (ok - I don't know enough about them!). I do know that leaf cuttings take easily from them though from experience.

I don't know the correct name for the flamingo. Your plant looks very similar to mine. Do they go dormant? Mine seems to be doing poorly. So I was wondering if it was just going dormant, or I have another problem.
What do you want to swap? I love to swap plants. But I see you are in the UK. Thats not so easy.

Sorry - I meant that I could swap id's!!!!

Yes, the Eucomis go dormant, certainly here in the UK as they're tender here. If it's still in a pot, stick it somewhere dry for a month or two and then repot.

Here are the three pages re Eucomis on the Pacific Bulb Society site...........

Pacific Bulb Society | Eucomis

Pacific Bulb Society | Eucomis Two

Pacific Bulb Society | Eucomis Three

I've posted a pic of my E.bicolor here.......

What I did achieve in 2011

........it's near the bottom.

I think the vine growing up your post is called black eyed susan vine?

But those are some lovely blooms to look at while my yard is bare and the cold air is still around lol

Actually the vine survived and is still blooming. I think the name starts with a T. I havn't checked into it yet. I have another type that is just pale yellow.

You are both correct - it is Thunbergia alata.

Same family as the Clock Vine (Thunbergia mysorensis)..............

OMG how did I miss this thread Lynn, love your garden. The ginger is really neat and seems to do very well for you. The cactus flower is gorgeous My gardens are just starting It's still to early to plant some stuff. But I got some plants started in the house and have them outside to toughen up. I finally got my shade garden started that I wanted to do back a couple of years ago when I injured my shoulder. The trees are finally starting to leaf out.

Wow...your yard is like a wonderland! It's tidy and all your plants are lovely. My yard is full of invasive vines, shrubs, and water oaks. Not very tidy at all...LOL

Thanks for all of the beautiful pics!
