Leaf drop normal during the winter?

While in Florida, I noticed several orange trees full of fruit, with 50 or 100 small ripe oranges on the hanging on the branches. However, a lot of the leaves had fallen off. Is this normal for citrus trees to loose some leaves in January? These trees are planted in the ground and are probably 10 years old.
