I have maybe half a dozen of these plants starting out myself. If it does bloom, from what I have read it will be really fragrent, and will only last maybe a day. It will only bloom at night, and fruit bats or something like that would have to pollinate it to produce the fruit. We have the plants all over here, and if you havent tried the fruit, its really juicy.

This grew very quickly. All of a sudden, poof, a flower is coming. I told hubby it was going to bloom tonight. And it did. It looks very similar to the night blooming cereus in flower but not foliage.(well sort of) ![]() ![]() ![]() size comparison size comparison blooming later; more open![]() A beautiful flower. But heck! Are they all going to bloom in the dark?? |

The bloom reminds me of a night blooming cirus (spelling) cactus although I know that's not it, the body-not so much, but at any rate neat plant you got... and cute pup!

That's either one huge flower, or one really small dog! ![]() Interesting that you tagged the photos as a cactus flower. I was going to say that in your first photos, the leaves look a little like christmas cactus. I really don't know tropical plants, however, so it's just an observation. I'm probably way off! Lynne, I would so love to see your garden! Even though you've posted lots of wonderful pictures, I can just imagine how beautiful it must be in person! You really have an eye for plants and composition.

Bummer!!! Those kind of flowers remind me of the plant that Walter Matthau was growing in the movie Dennis the Menace...he waits forty years to see it bloom for a minute and then misses it!

yes after seeing the bloom it is a dragon fruit plant. The flowers only bloom at night, and last normally just a day or two. They grow all over the place in asia.

So you still think it is dragon fruit? And it need two blooms. Interesting. We'll have to see what happens next bloom season. We attached it to a tree. I'm wondering if I will regret that. I just missed another bloom on the night bloom cereus. It grew so quick and I didn't think I needed to check it yet.
