Hummingbirds LOVE it!

I know there are lots of plants that hummers love, but someone at work just gave me starts of this plant today and I vowed to find out what it is. The foliage is not attractive, the flowers are intriguing, but not overly exciting in my estimation, BUT - oh how the hummers flock to it (or so she says!).
Can anyone out there tell me what these flowers are and any experiences with this plant? Sorry for poor quality pic - taken indoors with old camera in a hurry!
THANKS!

It looks like a fuchsia, there are some with tube shaped flowers, where does she grow it?

Can't tell you what it is, but it doesn't look like a fuschia to me.

I haven't seen this plant in person, but from the photo, it looks like zauschneria to me.

Here's a link to an on-line nursery with photos. I hope this is ok by OG rules to post for these purposes:

I don't think it is a fuschia. It has lots of little air roots for the first 4-6 inches of the plant - hoping they will take off easily - seems like a bad time of year to try rooting anything - potentially hot! The end of the trumpet is different but maybe it is a different species/hybrid of this same plant? It certainly has some similarities. I have a few drooping flowers left that I haven't yet cut off from my cuttings and took a pic of the end to show you - they are somewhat different than the zauscheria on the link noted? What do you think?

Mike, I believe it is a Cape Fushia. They come in red & the dark pink. I was looking at them this weekend because I heard the hummingbirds love them. I am pretty sure that is what it is.

As stated above regarding Zauschneria, I have a Zauschneria, and I have seen hummingbirds go to it frequently when it blooms. I cannot remember what species I have, but I know the common name was "Orange Carpet". It doesn't bloom til later in the summer, going into fall. The flowers of your plant do look similar in shape to the Zauschneria that I have.

Edited to add: I searched and found out the species name of the Zauschneria that I have, it's Zauschneria garrettii. Maybe yours is some other species of Zauschneria

Nope...I don't think this is it. The flower isn't the same and they only come in red. Capes come in red, pink & yellow. I'm pretty sure it is a Cape fushia.

I googled Cape Fuchsia, and that is it. Here's a link:

Paghat's Garden: Phygelius x rectus 'Pink Elf'

Beautiful!

P.S. mayres - I posted just as you posted - this looks like a fun plant to grow.

Will see just how easy they are to start - I have them soaking in a bucket of water tonight and am thinking of just plunking them down in the ground somewhere and seeing what happens?!

Good luck Mike! As soon as I find a good place for one I'm getting the pink one. The one I got last year "Galadriel" (I'm a Lord of the Rings geek too ) didn't make it last winter Google that one, she's a charmer!

I don't think it's a cape fuchsia; I think it's a species. I have a migraine so the name escapes me. Anyway, fuchsias take sobralia culture (dappled sunlight/shade; no direct light; heavy water and food). If grown in a container, will need its soil replenished every year (add more or dump broken-down orchid mix in pot). Acid-loving; feel free to put coffee grounds in its pot or around where its planted. Needs water year 'round. Not freeze-tolerant. Will die inside.

(I also grow fuchsias )
