look what I found blooming this morning :)

I don't know what its called. Its a succlent that reminds me of antlers and they get huge. This bloomed on a piece that was stuck into a planter with other types of succlents and the bloom is huge compared to the leaf its growing from. I just happened to notice it out of the corner of my eye on the shelf under the lemon tree behind some 5 gal planter pots. If it wasn't so bright I may have missed it when I walked by with my dog. I think I captured its true color s well
Enjoy! I am

Yep...Epiphyllum...and definitely a gorgeous one! I've never seen one w/flowers THAT big.

BTW -- these are in the cactus family...and are epiphytic...just like our beloved orchids. AKA - Orchid Cactus.

Jay - I was thinking the same thing - "orchid cactus". I got a cutting of a red one the first part of April. Can't wait for it to grow grow grow and have some flowers - even half as nice as MA's!

Really that's too funny nora showed some recently she had and I was trying to find one.... I have a ton of them! 2 huge planters. This was a single leaf thet was rooted in a pot with 2 other pieces of plants. And its still only one battered scrawny leaf with that huge bloom attached to it. I'm afraid the weigjt will up root it lol. But its hanging on....
Thanks Katrina

@ dounoharm- thank you for the name I'd
@Phalcycle- iwant to see a pic of yours will you post one here ?
@plantloverlisa- its potted in cactus/succlent potting mix
@-K--i was surprised by the last shot too it was my blackberry phone lol all shots I do are until I get a real camera.
@Squire- I have 2 huge basket planters full of this with tons of new growths. But don't know if these are the same color or not this piece came from one of them. And these were cuttings from muy old neighbor over 10 years ago so these are huge plants- would cuttings be ok? Pm me.
@ everyone. If you'd like some cuttings let me know Pm me... Don't know if both huge planters are the same color this is the first bloom I've seen the others are tucked back under the orange tree out of sight so I have missed this over the years and I'm sorry I did because these are "WOW" lol

They require a bit of specialized Winter/early Spring culture to coax blooms. I didn't get any blooms on my two this year because I didn't put them through their usual Winter/early Spring ritual. I was doing a little test to see if they actually needed this treatment...sure enough...they do..I had zero blooms this year.

I normally move them to the coolest room in my house for the Winter...no extra lighting...and I let them dry out between waterings. As buds begin to swell...begin increasing light and water. I didn't do this and now I have no blooms this year.

I believe it's more the light than anything else that triggers their blooming but since it's spot was a cooler and darker area...I also decreased the watering. I will go back to this treatment next year.

Your blooming one obviously inadvertently got what it needed because of it's placement.
