peruvian daffodils!

i just mentioned in a thread below that i'd gotten one of these bulbs as a gift, started it inside in a big pot, and hoped it would grow in the awfulness known as wyoming.

so fast forward....not only is it growing, but it's BLOOMING! inside! it's been too cold here to put my bulbs outside yet, so this guy decided to bloom anyway. my uncle knows i love the strange flowers, so he saw some of these bulbs for sale and got some. i LOVE it! it even smells nice...sort of lemony.

i admit, i did a little of this when i saw it putting out buds. i'm also attempting some canna, calla, and aztec lilies this year. hopefully they all go this well!

I planted 3 of these last year. They grew but never flowered. I dug them up though so maybe this year they will do their thing.

Gorgeous! Do they smell like the kind we have here in the states? I love "wierd" daffodils, but the fragrance puts me off.

Gorgeous! I'm slowly getting into "gardening," never thought I had a knack for it until recently.

me either! granted, my "gardening" all exists in pots and indoors since i live in an apartment, but i'm slowly getting into growing flowers. i have the biggest black thumb for growing anything outside, so i've been experimenting with some of those "5 bucks a bag" bulbs from walmart. that way, when i DO kill them, i'm not out much but these were a total shock. it took the bulb quite a while to actually start growing, but when it did, it absolutely took off. no more than 3 weeks from barely poking out of the dirt to blooming.

which ones? mine or dounoharm's? my daffs smell like lemon to me. YMMV of course. i don't know if i'd trust my sense of smell....everybody else says Maxillariella tenuifolia smells like coconut, but it definitely doesn't to me. *shrug* so who knows what these actually smell like.

I meant yours, I have about 8 different types of Narcissus in my garden that I moved form a park we used to live on and I'm told if they grow "wild" they tend to smell worse. Well mine smell evil to me, I love them, but I have to admire them on the plant. I'm going to check these out, they are very pretty!
