Thanks for sharing! Is this a plant that grows cultivated in peoples yards and in pots or is it a plant that grows "wild" in your natural landscape?

Thanks all for the appreciation. Mayres and Orchids4me, this is from a forested area. It grows near borders of rice farms. Usually in India we do not grow this near our house as the plant tubers are poisonos if taken in large quantity. Also there is a superstition that whoever grows it at their house, there are chances of fighting between family members !!

Regards,

Mani.

Thanks for posting a beautiful picture Mani. It is nice to see this growing wild.

Gloriosa Lily is the most common name in English, a vining member of the lily family, toxic because of its colchicine content especially in the tuber. Gloriosa suberba is possbly the only species, with varieties growing in tropical Africa and southern Asia. It is a somewhat common cultivated plant worldwide, grown as a tender bulb in temperate areas. In the US you can usually find tubers in garden centers in the spring, or from catalog/internet vendors that specialize in tender bulbs.
