2 of my Hoyas

My Hoya bella bloomed smaller this year, as it wasn't in a place of honor. ( I NEED a greenhouse!)

Last year, Solay sent me a little cutting of her Hoya serpens. It's blooming now, and I LOVE IT! Cindy!!!! (BTW- She says she'll be on with pics of her new bundle, soon! )

First shots are bella~ second shots are serpens.

SO CUTE!!

Patti-

Have I asked you what you have your serpens potted in? And what kind of light are you giving it? Mine is still tiny. VERY tiny.

The third pic from the right shows the plant. It's in a 2" pot, planted in normal potting soil. I have it on a southern exposure windowsill. (upper) I just water it pretty much every day as it dries out quickly.

Wow. Great pictures. 2 & 5 my favorites. Those are some neat Hoyas. I'm still working my little cutting along that I also got from Solay. (Cindy) I think it is green. My other curly one has never bloomed and it is getting too long. I think it needs a clipping and a repot. And probably a relocation. Good job blooming yours.

Yours is so much bigger than mine. I have a piece from Cindy as well, and I think it's grown like maybe 2 leaves in the past year. The cummingiana I have however has grown like 2 ft. I might try changing to my SE window.

Yours is gorgeous!

Lynn~ I have 5 different ones, but not he curly one. I had one years ago, but I lost it in the infamous house freeze... I'm planning on getting a little one from the greenhouse nearby.

JoBeth~ My cummingiana is really long as well. No bloom on it yet, however. I have a larger leaved "wax plant", and a larger leaved pink variegated one that have never bloomed, either. I'll just be patient.....

Orchidlover55~ You've no doubt seen them. They're everywhere! You probably just haven't seen them in bloom. They aren't all fuzzy, and some are fuzzier than others. I love the little jewel dots in the center of each bloom.

to all for the nice comments.

Wow, great photos!!! Love the fuzzy one!

I have a few hoyas too. I have a carnosa, an australis, an indian rope, a purpurea-fusca, a bella (teensy) and a red flower one that has red blotched leaves. I bought some cheap at the markets and took cuttings and have pots all over the place. Only got them a few months ago so no reblooms yet.

We have a Hoya which is kept in a southern window in our kitchen. It blooms for maybe 8 or 9 months of the year. Sue refuses to move it, even when cleaning! Her other golden rule is never dead head.
The serpens is particularly lovely.

Mine do best in a southern window as well.

orchidlover55~ They aren't usually in bloom in the stores. They just look like a hanging plant. Look for the tags. I find them at Lowes, grocery stores, garden centers...They're all over the place. (stores, not wild) I'll have to start some bella cuttings for you.

I also have a cutting from Cindy. The cummingiana (sp?) I think. When it got about a foot long I crossed my fingers and cut it and stuck the piece in the pot. It took. So now I'm waiting a bit longer and will cut both and put in the pot to get a fuller plant eventually. I picked up a Hoya at a KMart this summer. Rounder leaves; button shaped. No blooms, as Patti said. But a pretty healthy plant hanging out in a sad environment. (their garden center is pretty woeful) I still need to tackle the curly one. Hindu rope. I want to cut it back and it needs a repot really bad. I'll try rooting the cuttings. Selby Gardens in Sarasota, FL has several trees that are enveloped in Hoya. It grows up the whole trunk. It is very neat. That is a fun garden to visit. And speaking of the Gulf coast; a very beautiful area.
