Queen of the Night

Epiphyllum oxypetalum, or the Night Blooming Cereus, or the Queen of the Night, is probably the only cactus plant I can grow correctly. I am too diligent with watering, lol. Seems like this plant doesn't really mind the "regular" houseplant watering I give.

Mine's just an established cutting. Growing a lot, but don't know when will it bloom. It's been growing for a year, and I'm impatient. When do you think it reaches maturity?

Thanks for any help!

Hi , They bloom on the old growth , I talked to a man that grows a lot of the Eppis .not long ago .
Mine has not bloomed yet ,it is a cutting the original plant had an accident . If it buds watch it close , for a couple of years I thought the buds blasted , one shot to see them , they smell so good, like Desert Flower perfume .
They like moisture I water and Fert. along with the Orchids , not like regular cactus Gin

I grow many of them and mine bloom every summer and early fall. New cutting should only take a year to bloom. They love to be feed but not kept too moist. In the hot summer here, I water only once or twice a week. Mine also get very bright light but not direct sun. In the winter I store them in the garage and cut way back on the water. The flowers also attract bats.

Hi lily,
you cactus(hylocerius undatus)is a night bloomer, you know that. But it must be well grown before it will bloom.as well in its natural enviroment(rainforest)it grows in the crotch of trees as well as on the ground. It likes it best with crowded roots so don't repot to often,It also likes lots of organic matter in its diet. You can encourage it to bloom by sticking it in a dark room like a garage or basment for a few days and shock it into action.Do not over fertilize it use at least half strength liquid like mirical grow.An added bonus to this beauty is the blooms on a healthy plant are extremely fragrant.
good luck
phil
