Since this thread is not a newbie question about orchids I have moved it to the proper section "Other Plants"

African violets. I've had several over the years and they do make a lovely display. Had a double purple and double white that sat in my kitchen windows
and bloomed their little hearts out. Would have to find a dark corner in the house to give them a rest.

Very nice Orchid Jeff. All but 1 of my 20+ AV have gone to the big garden in the sky, they died of old age but they flowered their little hearts out.

Nice! I used to grow, show and hybridize African Violets myself. That was another lifetime...Your blooms are pretty! I've found orchids to be so much more interesting! There are so many types, and different growing conditions! They're so rewarding. I still have a few violets for old times' sake, too.
Welcome to orchids!

Thanks! however, this is quite embarrassing to say, but..I don't know what kind of Violets they are all I ever worried about was how to care for them and propagate new ones . up until I joined this forum, I had Orchids....now I have advanced and I have Cattleya's and Phalaenopsis Orchids, I kind of hope to change that...I am trying something new with the Violets, I took a leaf from 3 of my favorites and trying to make a single plant with 3 color variations... should be nice

I was going to mention that Patticake was an African Violet person but she beat me to it. I have not had much luck with them. I managed to keep a couple of streptocarpas alive but barely. Looks like one is lost to the freeze actually.

I have a few left as I too use to grow several. I gave my favorite away recently as for birthday gift. It was called Cherokee Pow Wow and it had green and white leaves with red blooms.

hehe i did this with my christmas cactuses. i had 3 colors at the time, so i took a cutting off of each and stuck all 3 in one pot and gave it to my mom. they bloomed all winter, and she even had blooms on all 3 at the same time. now that i have 5 colors, i'm gonna do the same thing for myself next year.

Thank you, I love it also, since my favorite color is blue, I heard that blue is one of the rarest colors in flowers, I am now looking to find me some blue orchids, I seen a few, but none at where I buy...and very sorry, like my Orchids they are un-named, never paid attention to that detail
