I love the daisy and the fringed edges.

All very spectacular! Love the blue ginger...never seen that before. The yellow flower is funky! Cyms in the ground? Hmmm...

Debra, I had two warm growing Cyms and I decided to put one in the ground as an experiment. (I made a ground orchid section) It has not gone through a winter yet so we will see. But it bloomed, whereas the potted one has done nothing. The yellow flower is a succulent. It was ID'd a while back on here as orbea samota. Then another name came along and I can't remember what it was.

Nice pics. Lovely pinecone ginger (we call them beehive gingers here). I haven't seen that colour before.

Tansy, the pinecones start off green and put out little yellow flowers. Then they turn red and eventually open/loosen up like a pine cone. A master gardener showed me how they give out some type of emollient that can be used on the skin when you squeeze them. |

G'Day Imartiny Thanks for the stroll around your garden, does your blue ginger, die back and reappear each year as it does here? Cheers Bernie

I bought one of the pine cone gingers earlier this year, as I had seen lovely orange ones. However, after I paid for it, the seller (at the flea markets) mentioned that it was a coffee colour (brown...). I will keep my eyes out for a red one now (to go with my coffee coloured one).

Wow, seeing this thread pop back up is kind of depressing, now that so much has been frozen. |

didn't mean to bum you out... I know how it feels to lose plants and even just one makes my stomach sink...Just when I saw this photo I could not resist, it's absolutely one of the most symetrical universal classic flower and I just had to know. I did manage to stumble across the other thread regarding the ID, but by then it was too late, already posted. Thanks for the info though, this is one I simply must have in my collection... Sending some warm sunshine your way

They root very easily. These didn't freeze. I protected them. My host plant is in recovery after a blow over knocked it off the shelf and broke it into pieces. At this point I'm tired of protecting, so many are holding their own in the 40's, maybe 30's. Even an orchid or two a few times. But out of all the devastation, I've got some azaleas blooming. So your post also reminds me what I can look forward to with warmer weather, and ideas for new replacements. |
