Hoya serpens

First blooms on this Hoya since I got it by mistake from an E-bay seller. I potted it up in a tiny coconut shell last year and now it's in bloom. It's so pretty and fuzzy.
My Hoya bella is still drying up so I may resort to trying to root it from a clipping now.

Oh, I love the color! The form is the same as my mini hoya, but the blooms are white and lavender. I LOVE the green blooms! Nice! Thank goodness for mistakes!

I had a hoya for years and never could get it to bloom. I would have thrown the darn thing out but it belonged to my deceased mother. Finally I gave up and gave it away. Probabaly a light issue as it grew leaves very quickly.

Funny thing is this one didn't mind the extreme heat in the greenhouse and high light while the Hoya bella wilted, dropped leaves and didn't bloom.

Too bad you had to give it away David. I didn't know what a Hoya was until I got one and now I really like it.

Patti, when this little thing needs to be re-potted, I can send you a piece. Not sure if it will grow from a clipping too or does this one need to be divided?

Yes you may JoBeth. I'll see when I re-pot how many pieces I can get. I'll wait until after the blooms. It grows pretty fast. When I got it a year ago it had just a few leaves.

Oooo! I would love a piece! It looks like it would root like the other types do. I need to come up with some plants for you, however! You've been so generous to me!

Don't worry about me. I'm only giving what I can spare. I think we like similar stuffs. The Tolumnias for example. I have a tiny division of one for you too. Will send out together.

Thanks rcb. Do you root it in peat moss?

solay - I use a 50/50 mix of peat moss and perlite. And put them under my orchids in the greenhouse. I had received 20 cuttings, and 18 of them took. I'll send u a PM with a link to how to propagate these from cuttings.

Got the info. Thanks rcb. I'll try the rooting on the Hoya bella over the weekend.

Orchidfriend, I'll have to check the label and then let you know. I got is about a year ago. I bidded on two orchid seedlings and got two Hoyas instead. Then when I informed him of the mistake, he said to to keep them for free.

Love it!
If you are interested in another I have a HUGE pink flowered one that blooms every year and is VERY EASY to root from cuttings. I just put them in water for awhile.
If anyone is interested - I previously noted a pic of mine and wondered if anyone was interested in trading cuttings? Blooms on my Hoya plant Since this thread I have acquired a few more plants including a variegated one!

mayres, which variegated one do you have? I am rooting a variegated bella right now, that I would be willing to trade.

Here is a picture of the leaves of this one.

OHHHHH, so THAT's what these are..... I took pictures of them at the Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, FL; I had never seen them before and had no idea what they were called until this post. Thank you.

here are a couple of the pics I took:

Orchidfriend, I got mine from Clackamas Orchids. I think they have a web site.?

Mike, I'd love to trade when I re-pot this one. That is if you don't already have a Hoya serpens. I have a noid Cym. for you when I divide it that is a miniature for the wisteria start you sent me.

Natalie, that's a pretty one too. Yeah, I had no idea what they were. The first one I've ever seen was in a Thai restaurant in San Francisco. It was a very large plant and I just figured it was some sort of house plant like ivy. Then I noticed the blooms. They are very neat looking.

I'd be willing to send anyone a start of my pink hoya even without trade that is interested - plenty of material available!
Solay - one day when your plant has grown enough I'd love a start - no hurry.
Renee - unfortunately I don't know what the name of my two variegated ones are - just like orchids - they are noids at this time! However, there are not so many (I believe) options - so maybe it will be possible to determine exactly what it is at some point - I don't pretend to be a hoya expert - just happen to have a half dozen different ones. I'm pretty sure it is not like yours however. Some of the leaves are totally white! Pm me your address and I'll send you a cutting - my variegated plants are fairly small - the behemeth is my pink one noted in the post above - I could send everyone in the forum a cutting of that one.

Hello mayres,

I would love a cutting, I have a small variegated carnosa...it's a little small right now, but I'd certainly be willing to trade when it gets a bit bigger, say by the end of the summer. I've had it about a month it's grown 4 new leaves already. The leaves are pink until they mature then turn white and green. It's pretty cool, I grow it mixed in with my orchids.

Orchidfriend, I'm glad you found something you liked. I was thinking of a pitcher plant myself after seeing them at the SF Conservatory of Flowers last year. Not sure yet if I can provide the right environment for them. My Venus Flytrap is doing just OK so I don't think I'll try the pitchers just yet.

Pics today of my noid hoya - you might say it is a little on the large side! Maybe 20-30 flowers right now! Kitty stretching in the sunshine nearby!

Even the immature blooms are kind of cool looking!
